I was seated at the main table, waiting for the band to perform. Next to me sat Ryder and Rosalie and over me the royal family. The king was smiling with his wife, both inhumanly gorgeous.

I though Ryder was a fallen angel, the most beautiful guy I've ever met, but then you had the king. He had blond hair that laid into his neck and golden eyes, like a real liquid. They were mesmerizing and absolutely breathtaking as the rest of his face: squared jaw, straight nose, sculpted cheekbones and just incredibly handsome.

Next to him sat his wife, the queen, The woman had long black hair with piercing blue eyes, her cheekbones and chin stood royally high and her thin perfect nose lead to her full red lips. She wasn't wearing much make up, she definitely didn't need any.

'Hello everybody", I recognized that voice.

I turned to the stage and saw Jayden, Rosalie groaned loudly, making her sister laugh and Alexander scowl I jealousy. I though he returned to his old pack and we would never have to see him again.

"Um, this song is for the special girl in the blue dress", he turned to me.

"I just wanted to tell you that you look gorgeous, Ambrosia", I immediately grimaced.

This was not what I wanted! I looked away and tried to hide myself from him, but he started to sing and I cringed. Why couldn't he understand that I wasn't interested?

A hand slipped on my thigh and I looked at Ryder, his eyes were pure black. He kept going up, but I stopped him. We shared a look and his eyes shifted back.

"I'm going to kill him", he mouthed.

I gave him a stern look.

"Ignore it, you know how I feel about him", I assured him.

"I marked you, a guy looking at you makes my wolf want to rip his head off. Singing a love song, I can't hold him back", he whispered.

Jayden ended and started to compliment me, angering Ryder even more. I grabbed his two hands tightly and placed a kiss on his cheek, he immediately calmed down.

"My choice is clear", I insisted.

He sighed and his normal eye color was back and it stopped shifting. We turned back to the others, who were watching us. I blushed and readjust myself.

I caught the king staring at me, I looked at him. My cheeks turned a deeper shade of red, I couldn't help it. Something about him made me feel shy, but also something else I couldn't name.

The first slow dance of the night was called and I tried to get Ryder, but Pauline beat me to it. I groaned and tried to find a suitable partner, but each guy avoided me. Scared of Ryder.

"Ambrosia, right?", I turned around.

The king was smiling at me, I nodded shocked. He held out a tanned hand and I stared at it.

"Can I have this dance?", he asked.

"What about your wife?", I was confused.

He grabbed my hand and pulled me along to the dance floor, I was so confused. I didn't know how to act around him. Should I curtsy? How do you address him?

"My son is keeping her company", he chuckled and I followed his gaze.

Malcolm was dancing with his mother, who was smaller than he. They were really adorable. An empty feeling filled my chest at the thought of parents.

Something I always wanted.

The king pulled me out of thoughts by getting into dance position. Was he actually serious?

"If it concerns your mate, I can assure you he'll behave around me", he winked.

"You're the king", I breathed still not believing it.

"You're a fan?",

I smiled at his silly humor, you could just see he was a dad.

"Am I being rude? I never learned how to act around...royals", I confessed.

"No one cares, Ambrosia, it's a party", he shrugged.

I shut up and dance along, the soft music on the back ground. There was a feeling that kept hitting me, but I didn't know it, it made me so frustrated.

"You know I don't believe in rumors, but I was just wondering. Is it true you haven't been able to shift yet?", he questioned after a long silence.

"Yes...does that mean I'm a half blood?", I asked carefully.

"I can smell a half blood from a mile afar. Believe me, you aren't one", he insisted.

"Then I don't know why I'm not able to shift yet", I confessed.

"Maybe because your wolf is waiting for Ryder to fully claim you. If he doesn't she won't be so affected by the rejecting. I must warn you, if he rejects you, you'll loose your wolf", he told me.

"What?", now I was petrified.

"I scared you, didn't I?", he asked ashamed.

I looked up at him and he sighed, muttering something under his breath. His large warm hand caressed my arm.

"For a while, not for the rest of your life. I can help you with that", he clarified.

"Why are you so kind to me?", I asked when the music stopped, dropping my arms.

"You remind me of someone I lost years ago and I've seen how a rejection can destroy a wolf. It's something rare, but when it happens the impact is immense and as king it's my duty to take care of everyone in the kingdom", he explained.

"You mean your daughter?", I asked.

He froze, pain filled his eyes and I regretted it immediately. I'm such a bitch.

"Excuse me, your majesty", Rosalie bowed for him.

"Ambrosia, we need to perform",

I stared at the king, who nodded, letting us go. My mouth opened, but no sound came out of it. I wanted to apologize, but my entire body was frozen. Rosalie dragged me along and watched me strangely.

"You just danced with the king, lucky bastard", she laughed.

I didn't join.
