My Neighbor Matt Espinosa

Chapter 4

As I start to walk back to my house, someone calls my name. It's Callie, a girl I met who sat next to me in my math class. She's pretty nice. I think she'd make a good friend.

"Hey, do you walk home?" She asks.

"Yeah" I answer.

"Me too! How far away is your house?"

"Just down this street and to the right."

"Ohh mines over there too! We can walk together!"

"Yeah!"

We start our walk to our houses. Turns out her house is three away from mine. She's also a magcon fan and she tells me that her favorite is matt also. She's a pretty perky person, but she's really nice. We exchange cell phone numbers and say good bye when we get to my house, then she walks down to her house.

Today actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Okay it was actually freaking amazing!!!! I mean hello?! Matthew Espinosa is my NEIGHBOR!!!! As in I live right next to him!!!!!! I text Anna and tell her all about it. She basically says how jealous she is and how she told me so and how lucky I am.

I get ready for bed and have a hard time falling asleep. I just keep thinking about today. I finally manage to slip off to sleep around one in the morning.

~next morning~

I wake up to the terrible sound of my alarm. I hit snooze and lay my head back down, but sit straight up when I remember what happened yesterday. I shower, get dressed, and do my hair and makeup. I'm wearing white shorts with my blue magcon shirt and white vans. I have a lot of magcon merchandise. I pretty much spent all of my money on it.

I'm eating breakfast when I get a text. It's from Callie. It says 'hey, when you're ready text me and maybe we can walk to school together?'

I respond with 'yeah! I'm almost ready. You can start to walk to my house when you're ready'

'Ok I'm on my way' is what she says back.

I finish up my cereal, grab my backpack and walk out the door. I walk to the end of the driveway and Callie meets me there. Perfect timing. We start the walk to school and talk along the way.

We arrive at school and walk to our first classes. I see Lexie and sit right next to her. "Hi" I say to her.

"Hey" she says just as the bell rings. She looks like she wants to say more but doesn't because class is starting.

At the end of class she pulls me to the side and asks me if I'm friends with Callie. I'm surprised at her question but answer with "yeah. Why?"

"Be careful. She uses everyone. And she's really mean. Don't listen to her."

I'm surprised again and have no idea what to say.

She finally says "look I'm sorry, but it's true. I know she may seem nice at the time, but..." she trails off. "Look, I may be wrong. She is nice to some people, but not many. She might truly like you as a friend, but just be careful. if you suspect her of using you, stay away from her." Then she walks away.

What? She seems nice. She seems like a good friend. But what if Lexie's right? maybe she's lying? why would she lie though? that doesn't make any sense. I'm so confused.

I decide to still give them both a chance. I don't say anything to Callie about what Lexie said. I do try to look for signs saying she's using me, but I have no idea what to look for. Why would she use me? she has no reason to, so I finally decide she's okay. I'm pretty sure Lexie was wrong.

When I get to my last class, matt sits down next to me again. "Hey" he says.

"Hi" I say back.

"So do you like the neighborhood?"

"Yeah"

"That's good. I hope we're not too loud" he says with a laugh.

"Eh. I've heard worse..." I say.

"Oh Just wait until the guys visit me!"

"The... guys...?"

He laughs. "Yeah. They're visiting in the summer. I bet you wanna meet them?" he says, more like a question.

"Yeah! oh my god seriously?! you're going to let me meet them?!?!"

He laughs again. He's so cute when he laughs. "Of course! I can tell how good of a fan you are..." He looks at my shirt.

I blush a little and say "well you're the best, like, ever!"

"Well yeah I thought we went through this yesterday!" He laughs again.

I laugh and the bell rings.

After class matt pulls me to the side and says "so you walk home?"

I answer with "yeah. Do you?"

"Yeah. Can I walk you home? I mean, since we live right next to each other..." he trails off.

"Yeah! I've been walking with Callie. do you mind if she joins us?"

"Not at all." he says and smiles.
