Macrae always loved the water, even as a child. She loved the pond behind the house - the one that always froze over in the winter. She loved the brook that ran east. She loved the great loch that separated her village from the next.
Most of all, Macrae loved the sea. She loved the stories the sailors brought back to town. She loved how it never seemed to end. She loved the possibilities and the secrets. She loved it; she loved it so much!
Everyday that she could get out, she ran straight to the beach, dead North of the house she shared with her brothers. She would play on the beach and imagine she was sailing on the waves that rolled in.
