Macrae didn't go into the bakery the next day, but she did go into town. She didn't care what lies the men may have spread in the short time between the encounter and today's sunrise. She didn't care if she could clear her name. She just wanted the men to get there due.

She would do it herself, if she had to.

Macrae walked in with the sun rising behind her, seeming to come up a little more with each step she took. The warmth quieted the worry in Macrae's heart.

She could do this.

When Macrae walked into the village, there was a crowd gathered in the center. Macrae could hear the men from yesterday talking, but she couldn't hear what they were saying. Macrae froze.

One person emerged from the gathered people and came toward Macrae. She knew immediately from his hobble that it was the old sailor. Somehow, he knew without her explaining. "I-" Macrae choked on her words. The man put a hand on her shoulder.

"I know. Now, convince them." Macrae forced herself forward.
