Two years later, Macrae was filled with emotions beyond human word when on her weekly trip to the shore, a figure stood on the shore to meet her.
Somehow, there was Elspeth.
Elspeth, with her cloak bundled in her arms.
Elspeth, with her beautiful eyes, like the waves beyond her.
Elspeth, with her skin of freshly turned earth.
Elspeth, with her wide smile, and wider arms.
Macrae ran forward, but then stopped halfway across the sand. Elspeth walked to meet her, holding her cloak in front of her.
"I forgive you," Elspeth said with confidence. Macrae blinked back tears.
"How?" Elspeth stepped forward.
"Take it." She held out her cloak.
"NO!"
"That is how."
Macrae couldn't hold her herself back. She ran forward, holding the selkie as tight as her arms would let her. "I love you. I'm sorry. I love you," Macrae sobbed into Elspeth's shoulder.
Eslpeth hugged just as tight. "I know. I love you, too."
