Two years even later, Elspeth was still amazed to wake up every morning and see her cloak in a Cloakless home.
She knew where it was, it was right there on the hanger by the door, and yet the cold never came. That desperate chill that had always pulled her to the ocean was gone. Well, not entirely gone, but so, so weak. Weaker than she could ever remember it being. She did go back sometimes, to visit Mother and the Elder, but it was never to save her life.
Somehow, somewhere deep in her soul, Elspeth knew they had beaten the curse.
