Macrae grabbed herself a strawberry out of her basket and ate it. She felt a little weird, standing and eating, staring at the naked girl. This girl was just so fascinating, though!
"I'm Macrae," she offered. The naked girl stared at her blankly, having finished her second strawberry. "My name," Macrae elaborated. "My name is Macrae." She waited, and when the girl said nothing, added "What's your name?" Macrae offered another strawberry as a sign of trust.
The girl stepped forward, took it, and didn't bother stepping back. Once she had finished, she spoke just above a whisper to say "My name is Elspeth." Macrae shivered. Something about the way the girl - Elspeth - spoke was so strange to her. She knew Elspeth wasn't speaking any language she had even passing knowledge of, yet she understood every word perfectly.
"I like that name." Macrae deigned to sit down on the sand, moving her basket in between the two. Elspeth followed, bare knees on the cold, damp sand. She dared to reach into the basket a grab a strawberry for herself, and Macrae took one more for herself as well.
The two kept eating silently. They ate through all the strawberries, the one loaf of bread, and the small bit of cheese that Macrae brought.
