Elspeth waited just below the entrance to the Elder's home. She still enjoyed visiting her friend, but conversation had grown strained over the last year. Elspeth had given in to her mother's point of view; the Elder had not and never would give in. She would forever talk of bending the curse. Elspeth did not want to think about any of it.
Eventually, she was running out of breath, so she pulled herself into the Elder's home. At once, the Elder ran over and pulled Elspeth to her feet.
"I have done it!" the Elder cried.
Elspeth blinked, wide eyed. "Done what?"
The Elder laughed and swatted Elspeth's arm. "The curse, of course! I have figured to bend it!" Elspeth felt a cold hand seize her heart. She could only half listen to the older Selkie rave about her solution.
Macrae. It hurt to think of her.
