Elspeth remained much less careful than she should have been. She hid her cloak under the boulder. She stayed longer than she should have. She could no longer afford stealth when she retrieved her cloak or returned to the water.
She did not regret some of the secrets she failed to protect. She was very glad she told Macrae about the curse.
"So, wait, what keeps you from coming back?" Macrae asked.
"The curse."
"Yeah, I understood that part. Is it magic?"
"It is Galdur. Old Galdur. Magic is similar."
"Nothing, physically, keeps you from coming back? They don't chain you up, do they?"
"No. Nothing but the death of cold restrains me."
"Oh, well that's not good. I don't want you to die."
"That would make two of us then."
And they laughed like before.
