Macrae paced the space of her flooring just inside her door. She had already walked back and forth and back enough times to have turned the bit of snow that came in with her to slush.

Elspeth hadn't come back yet. Macrae knew she should have been. Macrae knew her time wasn't over, even if it was getting close. Macrae knew she was in trouble. It was the only explanation. The question was - what to do?

Macrae knew where Elspeth cloak was. She could go and protect the cloak, but... If they didn't know where the cloak was, she might lead them to it. That was the worst possible outcome.

Macrae paced some more.

Yet! If they were searching for Elspeth, if they knew she was a Selkie, would they not already be looking for the cloak? Wouldn't it be best to go a hide it somewhere harder to find? Or even take it for herself? If she had it, she could give it back. Macrae doubted the men would be so willing.

Convinced it was the best option she had, Macrae went out to find Elspeth's cloak.
