{Madeline's POV} *WEEKS LATER*

Stressed. That's the only thing that has been describing my mood lately.

Ryker has been planning a big charity ball and as luna I had to meet with so many people and act like I knew what the hell I was doing. I smiled, shook hands, and nodded to whatever they said.

On top of that Ryker's parents are back in town! So that means a stressed Ryker, which makes me even more stressed. He's been cooking every meal we've had from scratch and its all been Italian. Nothing against Italian food, but when you have it so much it starts to get old.

Not to mention the fact his mom keeps pestering me about kids. 'Are you trying?' or 'Have you took any test yet?' or 'I just need some grand babies! Maybe you should be a doctor' I just wanted to scream 'IM TRYING OKAY?!' but I refrained.

The first time I got even the slightest bit nauseous I was quick to take a test but it was negative. I didn't tell Ryker, though, he'd say I'm thinking too much into it. I don't see how he isn't worried? Doesn't he want kids?

"Did you go meet with the Bransons? We definitely need them at this charity ball." Ryker asked bringing me from my thoughts.

"Yes, they will be there." I said and he nodded writing something on a paper.

I looked to the clock hung on the wall.

"It's nearing lunch, are you hungry?" I asked and he shook his head.

"You go ahead, I have got to get this finished." I just sighed with a nod and stood walking to the door.

"You sure you don't want me to bring something up for you after?" I asked.

"Im sure, babe. Thanks though." His eyes never once met mine but I nodded nonetheless and headed downstairs.

"That smells delicious. What are you cooking?" I heard and turned seeing Alessia standing there.

She was rubbing her belly softly and I gave her a small smile.

"I'm frying up a hamburger. Would you like one?" I asked and she grinned.

"I'll take that as a yes." I joked causing her to laugh.

"I just can't stop eating." She said walking to me and leaned up against the counter beside me.

"And I can't cook." She added.

I looked at her amused, "I used to suck at cooking until I met Ryker. But i'll never admit that to him." I said and she laughed.

"What is it with Italian men and cooking? They're amazing at it." She said and I nodded in agreement.

"Indeed they are." I replied.

I finished cooking our burgers and we sat at the dining table munching away.

"So, I was wondering... you're really the only girlfriend I got here. You also mean a lot to me and Ryker. I care a lot about you two as well and I talked to Dimitri and we were wondering... would you like to be the godparents?" Alessia hesitantly asked and I felt my body freeze.

"G-godparents?" She nodded, "In the life we live... anything can happen. Plus, being a beta makes the risk higher. So shall anything happen to us, we know our baby would still be in great hands."

"Alessia... that means so much to me. I would of course have to talk to Ryker but I don't see a problem with it. I'd love to." She smiled nodding and let out a breath of relief.

"Alright, love, i'm going to take a quick shower." I said leaning down to place a soft kiss on Ryker's lips who hummed in response.

"I think I might have to join you." He teased and I rolled my eyes, "You have work to do, mister!" I joked and he let out a playful growl.

"I'll be quick. Then I'll come help finish up." I told him and he nodded.

"Sounds good."

I turned headed towards our room.

This day seemed only to drag by and I just wanted a hot shower and some rest.

I walked into our room and headed straight towards the bathroom. I turned on the shower to where it was steaming and peeled off my clothes and hopped in.

As I squirted some shampoo into my hand my mind drifted off to the charity ball. It is tomorrow night and everything had to be perfect.

Ryker stressed how important this was to him. They were raising money for a charity close to him and I was just as stressed trying to make this perfect.

It had to be.

I turned letting the water rise the soap out of my hair and my eyes landed on my clothes where something caught my eye.

Is that blood?

I already had a period at the beginning of this month...

My heart dropped and I quickly turned turning off the water and hopped out wrapping a towel around me.

No, no, no!!!

I quickly threw some clothes on and ran to Ryker's office and threw the door open.

His eyes widened and he quickly stood seeing me distraught.

"What's wrong?!"

"I need to see a doctor! Now!"

***

Ryker and I sat nervously in the room and he was rubbing my back comfortingly.

This couldn't be happening.

"Why me?" I asked and Ryker's hand froze.

"Babe, you can't think rationally yet. It could have been a number of things. It-" He stopped when the door opened and my doctor walking in looking over a chart.

She sighed grabbing a stool and pulled it out sitting on it.

"Well, Madeline, you were pregnant." She said looking over the many ultrasounds we had to take and my heart dropped.

"Were?" Ryker asked with a hesitant voice.

"Madeline had a miscarriage. It could have maybe been prevented if caught earlier, but the baby didn't make it."

And just like that my whole world shattered.

I knew this would happen.
