~~~Rose~~~
"You're not comin' in!" I exclaimed as Mickey stopped the car. "He's safe, he's got a wife and kids."
"Yeah, who told you that? He did. That's exactly what an internet lunatic murderer would say."
I had found a man online that had a website about the Doctor and Katherine. I got out of the car, walking across the street to the house that Clive had emailed me the address for. I knocked on the door and a boy opened it.
"Um, hello. I've come to see Clive? We've been e-mailing."
"Dad! It's one of your nutters!" The man appeared in a polo and khakis.
"Sorry, hello! You must be Rose. I'm Clive, obviously." I shook his hand.
"I'd better tell you know, my boyfriend's waiting in the car, just in case you're gonna kill me." He laughed and so did I.
"No, good point! No murders." He waved at Mickey.
'Who is it?" A woman called.
"Oh, it's something to do with the Doctor and Katherine! She's been reading the website. Please come through. I'm in the shed."
"She? She's read a website about the Doctor and Katherine? She's a she?"
~~~
"A lot of this stuff's quite sensitive, I couldn't just send it to you. People might intercept...if you know what I mean. If you dig deep enough and keep a lively mind, this Doctor and Katherine keep cropping up all over the place." He pulled out a folder, coming over to me. "Political diaries, conspiracy theories, even ghost stories. No first name, no last name, just the Doctor, and well Katherine, but all she's got is a first name. And the titles seem to pass down from father to son and mother to daughter, appears to be an inheritance. That's your couple there, isn't it?" He pointed to the picture from the website of the two of them, the faces around them pixelated.
"Yeah."
"I tracked it down to the Washington Public Archive, just last year. The online photo's enhanced, but if we look at the original..." I peered over his shoulder and the picture zoomed out to reveal that they were in the crowd during the assasination of US President Kennedy. "November the twenty-second 1963, the assasinaton of President Kennedy. See?"
"It has to be their parents. Are they brother and sister or something?"
"Going further back, April 1912. This is a photograph of the Daniels family of Southampton, and friends. This was taken the day before they were due to sail to the new world. On the Titanic. And for some unknown reason, they cancelled the trip and survived. And here we are 1883, another Doctor and Katherine." He pulled up a drawing. "Look, the same lineage. They're identical. This one washed up on the coast of Samatra the very night the Krakatoa exploded. The Doctor and Katherine are legends woven throughought history. When disaster comes, he's there, Katherine at his side. They bring the storm in their wake and they have one constant companion."
"Who's that?" I asked.
"Death. If the Doctor and Katherine are back...if you've seen them Rose, then one thing's for certain. We're all in danger. If they've singalled you out, if they're making house calls...then God help you."
"But who are they? Who do you think they are?"
"I think they're the same people. I think they're immortal. I think they're aliens from another world."
~~~
"Alright, he's a nutter. He's off his head, complete online conspiracy freak, you win!" I said, getting into the car. "What are we going to do tonight? I fancy a pizza."
