"Xavier!" I yelled into the silence. My eyes searched around me, looking for the familiar tall figure, but found nothing. I was alone and I wasn't sure if I wanted to be. Not bothering to search for him, I made my way over to the little wooden house hiding in the tree.

I tested my weight on the ladder to make sure it wouldn't make me fall and snap my neck. Something made a noise from inside, causing me to jump back. Nothing was moving so I decided to give in another shot. Clinging to the ladder for dear life was the only thing that didn't make me fall when another loud bang came from up top. "Addison?" I called out into the breeze, but still got no answer.

Taking the last couple of steps up, I pushed open the wooden door, making it squeal. Instead of seeing a head of turquoise hair, there was a baby squirrel jumping around trying to find different ways to break open its nut. We made eye contact for a brief second before it jumped out the window. I let out a disappointed sigh.

I walk further into the house, taking in my surroundings. In one corner were a bunch of multicoloured bean bags, next to them was a small table holding picture frames, and to my right was a desk with a single blue pen left on it. Some things had been moved around since the last time I was here. I picked up the blue pen and just stared at it. What if she is here? What if she just went for a hike? That doesn't sound like her at all. But neither does running away without telling anyone.

"Shit!" A deep voice yelled from outside. Dropping the pen, I ran to the door only to find Xavier attempting to climb up the ladder. He made it to the top and started dusting imaginary dust off his jeans.

"What the hell! Where were you?"

"I turned around to look back at the car then next thing I know your gone and I'm lost." He shrugged then walked into the treehouse. "Nice place."

"Don't touch anything. She'll know someone came through."

"Who?" He looked at me confused and I returned it with a dumb look. "Wait, she's here?"

"I don't know." I walked over to the picture frames and looked in awe at young me. There was a picture of me in an arm cast holding a teddy bear next to Addison outside the hospital. She was smiling but I, on the other hand, was crying. I forgot what Addy looked like with brown hair.

"I'm guessing that's from here." Xavier stood behind me looking at the pictures.

"Yeah," I smiled as the memory came to mind. "I was in so much pain. Addy thought it was hilarious though, even when I was being rushed through emergency."

We were so high up! I loved it! Addy's laughter came from inside as she jumped on the bean bags. "We are going to live here forever!" She laughed.

"Together." I smiled at her, picking up my bear from where I dropped it and making my way to sit next to her. "Do you think our dads could build us our very own pool?"

"We could become mermaids!" We always wanted to be mermaids.

"You girls having fun?" Mum came through the door holding two slices of chocolate cake. She handed them to us with a big smile.

"We love it!" Addy spoke with her mouth full. Mum laughed as she looked around the room. She seemed happy. We sat peacefully eating our cake as our dads were outside doing something important. I don't actually know what they were doing but Addy and I have made a strict no boys rule because boys smell weird and are mean.
