"You couldn't of rushed me out faster, could you?" I huffed sarcastically as we drove out of the carpark. I rolled my window down to let small drops of water enter."We're in a hurry. We've got no time to start conversations with every friend we see." He kept his eyes on the winding road.
"Patrick had found a possible clue and he was trying to explain something before you started yelling out. Plus, I haven't started a conversation with every friend I see, just Patrick and Emera. Plus, it's not my fault you have no friends." Maybe that last part wasn't important, but still.
"I have friends alright, you just don't see them."
"So they're imaginary?" I gave him a pointed look.
"No. They're just really busy people." His tone told me it was the end of our little talk, but I payed no attention to it.
"So then who do you hang out with? Or do you just walk around by yourself and never talk to anyone? It would make sense, your not really that approachable when you look like you've just found out your car was stolen." He furrowed his eyebrows as he switched between me and the road. I showed him my sweet smile and leaned my cheek on my fist.
"I had Addison to accompany me when she couldn't handle your bullshit." He smirked.
That one hurt.
My smile dropped immediately as I turned my body to face the window and watched the multiple buildings pass. "Oh come on, don't be like that." Xavier laughed as he nudged my leg with his left hand, but I just ignored him. "You seriously can't be pissed off at me right now." His smirk stayed on his face.
I rolled the window up as the rain got heavier. The droplets slowly made their way down like teardrops rolling down a cheek.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean for it to upset you so much." His voice came out in a whisper. I looked at him to see his smirk had dropped and his eyes looked so sincere. "I'm also sorry that you get pissed off so easily." And he there goes the sincerity.
"Is it hard for you to be nice to other people?" I asked as I turned to face him as he drove.
"Sometimes. Depends on the person really."
"Is that person just you because you seem to not have a liking for anyone else." I raised my voice as I waved my arms around.
"I'm nice to people." He tried to defend but didn't seem to convince himself.
"Oh really? Because you and Patrick seem to have this... Disliking of each other, you hardly look or say anything to Emera when we talk to her, you didn't seem to be happy when you first met me and you have no friends other than that guy that you sometimes talk to in the school parking lot that I have the feeling is not your uncle." I listed everything off as Xavier got tense.
"It's none of your business who I like and don't like, ok? And if I say that guy is my uncle then he is my uncle. Got it?" He snapped as his knuckles turned white due to the clenching of the steering wheel.
I turned around again to face the crying sky and watched the buildings turn into trees.
"Sometimes having no friends is the better option." Xavier whispered low to himself, but I still caught it. It was the most sincere thing I've heard him say and something tells me it wasn't fake. Xavier Langford wasn't an open book, he was more of one with twenty different locks that opened with the same key.
Maybe he lost the key.
A motel went by as a smile crawled it's way onto my lips. Addison, Patrick and I once stayed there for a night when we ran away from our parents. It was so fun until we were caught by the police stealing food.
