Xavier and I stilled as another thunderous crash sounded from outside. "Maybe it's that cat from earlier..." I suggested, but the look on Xavier's face showed he thought something different."You think a cat could make that loud of a noise?" He whispered whilst scanning everything around us. "Someone is out there." His grip tightened on the gun that was still in his hand.
"You're not going to shoot it, are you?" Something in my gut was telling me to not trust Xavier with the gun, and I was starting to listen to it. "Give me the gun."
"I'm going to check what that-"
"Xavier, give me the gun." My hand latched onto his bicep, stopping him from getting out of the car. My other hand was stretched out and open, waiting for him to give me the possibly loaded weapon. Sighing, he placed it gently in my hand and got back into the car. "I'm not letting you murder a innocent cat."
"It wasn't a cat." Confused, I followed where he was looking. Torch lights were shining near our area. "Should of let me keep the gun." He whispered under his breath. Making sure there was nothing left in the car, I hopped out and made sure to close the door as quietly as I could. "What the hell are you doing?!" Xavier whisper shouted as he also got out of the car.
"I'm not about to get murdered in a car dump. Come on." He followed me out the way we came in, squeezing through the narrow walk way. The lights were shining brighter as we got closer to where the arrows were. "We can't go out the main entrance, they're blocking it." I stated not knowing exactly who 'they' are.
"Well, how do we get out then?"
"We go around." Following a different path, we walked away from the flashlights as I tried navigating another possible exit without alerting whoever was out there. The plan was going well as we squeezed through different cars and machines. That was until Xavier knocked over a very loud tire rim, making it land on another piece of metal and making a sound that I'm pretty sure the entire state could hear.
"Over there!" A deep voice shouted behind us.
"God damn it." I sprinted as fast as I could through the maze of cars, finding many dead ends. The sounds of heavy boots hiting the ground sounded through the silent night. The stray cat from before started screeching as we invaded it's home. Making the mistake of looking behind me, I saw the flashlights shine through the dark.
I wasn't alone.
I squeezed through another narrow pathway hoping for a way out, but was disappointed with a dead end. "Come out girly." The rough voice taunted from the outside. Looking through the walkway, I got a glimpse of a guy in what looks like his early forties wearing hunting boots and a denim jacket walking past my hiding spot. "I'm not going to hurt you." His voice sounded further away this time
Clutching the cold metal in my hand, I let out a sigh. Big mistake. Something else crashed outside making me back into a broken car. My left hand was sliced by a piece of broken glass. I let out a hiss as another crash sounded closer. Someone could get through that passageway at any moment and all I have to defend myself is the gun that I'm terrified to even touch, let alone shoot.
A shadow casted on the floor in the form of a man. I raised the gun with my shaking blood covered hands and prepared to shoot. The footsteps got louder as they crushed a couple of leaves on the ground.
I'm going to shoot.
Time stilled around me as I let out a steady breath. I'm going to do what I think is right.
