"What are we going to do when we get there?" Xavier asked when he handed me my coffee from the airport coffee shop. The two and a half hour drive went by in a flash. And by flash, I mean I slept the entire way. Xavier said he only made one stop at a petrol station but made sure to lock the doors so no creep would come in and attack me."We go to a motel and figure out a plan from there." The warmth felt welcoming as it slid down my throat. "You said you had money?"
"I took my uncles stash. There was a good five thousand in there." He sat in the seat next to me and we both watched the planes come and leave at twilight.
"Won't he be angry with you?" I asked.
"Probably. Do you have your phone with you?" I nodded. "They can track you, you know?"
"I have it turned off. Hopefully that'll work." I have no idea how phone tracking works. Something about phone reception and a tower? I'm not fit in the category. "Do you have yours?" Xavier nodded his head and took a sip of his drink. Shortly after, our plane was ready to be boarded and we were on our way to Mexico. I got some more shut eye as I leaned on Xavier's shoulder, but I don't think he minded.
I feel scared. The guilt isn't leaving me, and it probably never will. But I just have to remind myself that I have to do this. To save my best friend.
When we got off the plane, I was still half asleep and was tempted to ask Xavier to carry me but I think he's at the same level of sleepiness as me. We got a rental car and started to drive around, looking for a motel. "We have no sense of direction here. We're going to get lost." I stated.
"We can just ask the locals for directions." He shrugged. He seemed weirdly calm in this situation. People around us looked to be setting up decorations for the celebrations. Xavier pulled over in front of a place that looked to be a fancy motel. We grabbed our bags and walked to the receptionist. The inside was a purple decor, reminding me of the club Addison was seen at. Xavier was talking to the lady at the front desk as I observed.
There were pictures of what looks to be a happy family, I'm guessing they're the owners. In a lot of pictures they were smiling at a dinner table and one where they stood in this very lobby, looking the happiest out of all the pictures. I smiled.
Xavier's hand rested on my back and started to guide me down a hall. He put the key in the lock and opened it to a modern black and white room with one bed. Xavier and I shared a look and I just sighed. There was a couch on the left, but it was small enough to fit a dog.
"It's not that much of a deal, we've slept in the same bed before." Xavier put his bags beside the bed and jumped onto it. "I'm so tired." He said.
"We have the rest of the day to rest. But we need to plan tomorrow." I sat on the couch and almost fell through. It seems like someone broke it, but put a cushion over it in hopes no one would find out. "I say we go tomorrow night and look around to see anything that stands out."
"Sure." He said tiredly. I don't even think he was listening to me. I was so tempted to check my phone and see if any messages were left, but I knew I couldn't. I wasn't about to risk getting caught when I just got here. We sat in the peaceful silence like usual, but then it started to irritate me.
"Hey, guess what day it is today." I said.
"What?"
"It's Halloween." I chuckled for no real reason. "What were you going to dress up as?"
"Myself. I haven't done that shit in a while." He sighed.
