As I went inside, my Mum walked down the stairs and pulled me into a big hug.

"How was your first day?"

"Not bad," I replied. "Not much happened to help the mission about Blake yet though..."

"Oh I wouldn't worry about that yet," Mum waved her hand dismissively. "It's only your first day, plus Marshall has given you two weeks to complete the mission - loads of time!"

I wish I felt that positive.

When I went upstairs to my bedroom, I checked my phone. There was a call request from Marshall but I declined it as I didn't feel like hearing what I knew he was going to say.
There was also a text from an unknown number. It said:

-??-
Hey it's Blake

My stomach flipped in surprise when I read it.
He texted me.
Already.

I quickly replied.

-Me-

Awesome! Thanks for helping me around school today :)

-Blake-

It was no problem seriously. I'm just happy we didn't bump right into each other like last time 😂

I smiled. He'll never let that go will he?

He sent an immediate text after, not even waiting for my reply. It said:

-Blake-

I'm really glad we now know each other - you're unlike anyone I've ever met. Have a great rest of the day and see you tomorrow ♡

My breath hitched as I read the last text and I walked to the mirror taking deep breaths.

Dark circles were underlining the bottom of my eyes and my brown hair was a mess.

I felt absolutely horrible.

I woke up the next morning, determined to move forward with my mission.

It was all about the right moment.

Mum was going to leave the next day for her mission in York and I'd have to be looked after by my Aunt Sophie.

She doesn't know anything about us being spies so it will definitely be fun hiding the truth just like I do with everybody else.

"Olivia!" Mum called. "Can we have breakfast together? It's my last day with you for a while..."

I washed, got dressed and changed into my school clothes.

"I'm coming!"

As I got downstairs, I smiled. My mum had made pancakes with chocolate sauce and whipped cream with hot chocolate.

"I just wanted to treat you," she beamed.

"Wow!" I marvelled. "This looks delicious!"

"You're doing so well, coping with being a spy and everything with your — Dad…"

Tears stung my sleep-deprived eyes, "Oh mum!"

I ran into her arms, and we stood there silently embracing each other until she pulled away and looked at me in the eyes.

"Look honey, I actually might not be back from the mission for a while..."

"A while?" I questioned. "How long is ‘a while’?"

"A few months... Maybe even half a year..."

"Half a year?! Why did you not tell me this?" I yelled. "What is this mission about anyway?"

She didn't reply, for a few moments then said: "It's confidential."

I rolled my eyes choked out a fake laugh, "Everything is confidential. Always confidential."

I gestured to the food, "So all of this was just because you felt guilty about leaving me?"

"Marshall said..."

"Who cares about what Marshall said?" I spat out angrily. "I am your daughter so I should have known this!"

I picked up my bag and put my coat on.

"Olivia..."

"I'm sorry mum," I looked at the ground not daring to see her hurt expression. It would only break me. "I just don't really feel like eating anything anymore, plus I don't want to be late for school."

Before she could say anything else I walked out of the door, frustrated.
