Silence.
There was a deep, burdening silence between us all.
Even as the fire brigade arrived with their fire extinguishing equipment and sirens; the police asked my parents questions, it felt as if the whole world had been muted.
But although the flames were extinguished, the burning red colour of the fire still blazed freshly in mind: repeating over and over in my head and making me want to scream.
I crumpled to my knees, staring longingly towards the remains of the ruined building as if Blake and Harper would come back.
But they're gone.
~
"We are now going to scour the building to see if there are any survivors," a fireman called to us. "But make sure you don't keep your hopes up..."
Blake's parents nodded sullenly and Sophie pulled me up.
"Oh Liv," She whispered in my ear. "Give me a hug."
I gripped onto her shoulders, heaving choked sobs until it felt as if I had run out of tears.
I let go of her, plastering a trembling smile on my lips, to try to reassure her that I felt a little better, even though I didn't.
I knelt next to Toby, wiping my wet cheeks with the sleeve of my shirt as he held my hand.
He looked thoughtfully at the swirling clouds in the sky: "They will be okay," He whispered. "I just know it."
I squeezed his hand in reply, cherishing his heartwarming hope.
I really do hope so.
~
Suddenly, there was an unrest between the remaining firefighters and policemen.
"We need backup," a voice sounded from one of their walkie talkies. "I repeat we need backup, over."
A handful of police and firefighters ran into the building and I sat up straight, feeling my muscles tense.
Have they found them?
And if so, are they still alive?
Moments later, some firemen and police came out again, carrying a limp body.
As they inched closer to us, I recognised the prominent scar on the cheek of the body:
Marshall.
My mum sucked in a breath as they brought his body onto a stretcher, gently placing a plain white sheet, over his face. Then, the paramedics wheeled him into the back of an ambulance and drove away.
A single tear rolled down Aiden's cheek as his wife comforted him and my heart sank.
Even after everything Marshall did to him and his family, Aiden still cared for him.
"Lucas unfortunately did not survive," the policeman said, disturbing the silence between us all. "Whether it was due to the poison intake or the bomb, we are not entirely sure but the hospital will examine his body and give you the information - if you please them to do so, Mr Evans."
Aiden nodded and opened his mouth to say something, when he was interrupted by Emma's gasp.
We all turned around to see what she was reacting to, then couldn't believe our eyes.
Oh my gosh.
Limping out of the ruined warehouse with Harper cradled into his arms, and a couple of firefighters surrounding him was Blake.
Blake!
Toby tugged at my hand, grinning, "I told you so."
Blake's face was dirty, his clothes were ripped and his hair was ruffled, but it was still him.
And he was alive.
I ran over to them hugging them both tightly, feeling overwhelmed tears of relief and joy sting my eyes.
"You're alive," I choked, my voice muffled in his shoulder.
"Liv," He whispered but then I heard how raspy his breathing was so I loosened my hug and pulled away to look at him. "I'm so glad you're okay." He continued.
"I'm so glad that you're okay," I replied incredulously, and he tucked a strand of my hair, that was sticking out, behind my ear.
