I ran quickly away, unable to watch them kiss any longer.
Oh, gosh. I hope they didn't see me. They'd think that I'm a stalker...
As I walked away, my mind whirred in confusion - why did I even care that Blake was kissing Aria? It was not as if we were together or anything.
I was shocked.Yes. That was why.
Then, I realised that I hadn't been paying attention to where I was going, and changed direction to go in the correct route to the exit of the shopping centre. I didn't think I'd be going back here any time soon.
But I was too late - before I was even within metres of the doors to leave the mall, I saw Blake running towards me.
"Tessa! Wait!"
I dodged out of his path but I was too slow and he grabbed my arm. I thought about pulling my arm away from his grip but decided to hear him out on what he wanted to say.
"Tess," He whispered the name as if his life depended on it. "I know you saw us."
I looked away from his intense, apologetic gaze - I just couldn't handle it.
"It was Aria who kissed me," He took a shaky breath as if saying this broke his heart. "She's an amazing girl and I feel so guilty that I don't like her the same way. I think I broke her... Heart."
He doesn't like her in the same way?
I felt my chest immediately relax a little, then scowled internally at myself for being so unthoughtful about how Aria must have been feeling right now.Poor Aria...
"And... well, what I'm trying to say is I — think I like someone else," He continued, gently letting go of my arm.
Who?
"It's you," Blake smiled a tiny smile, although the guilt about Aria was still in his eyes, and I almost thought that I had imagined him saying it.
My heart fluttered with many different emotions that I couldn't pinpoint.
"Please say something," He whispered in a strain. "Do you feel the same?"
His words hung in the air - I didn't know what to say.
Well do I?
Suddenly, destroying the pained silence, my phone rang and I jumped in surprise. It was Marshall.
Finally able to speak, I said: "I'm so sorry Blake, I have to take this."
He nodded and I stood aside, answering the call.
"Good," Marshall's projective voice sounded from my phone. "You answered my call."
"Why did you make mum leave a day earlier?" I blurted out in a whisper, hoping he'd give me an answer. I only wanted to know if she was safe or just any news about her.
"Oh please, not this," He sounded tired and bored. "We have more important things to talk about."
"Like what?" I replied, trying to keep the anger out of my tone of voice.
"You!" He laughed incredulously. "Why haven't you killed Blake Evans yet?
"You have given me two weeks to do it! And it hasn't been two weeks yet!" I whisper-shouted.
"You better not be having some teen fling with him are you?" His voice turned stern and serious.
I opened my mouth to speak and looked down at the ground, "No, of course not. Anyway, there's a party on Friday..."
"A party?"
"Blake's party," I whispered, hoping he wouldn't hear. "His family and friends will be there."
"Good, you can kill him there then. Just make sure you find a way to get him with you alone - even for only a second, then swipe the poison in contact with his skin."
My stomach sank and I was about to end the call, when he spoke more words - words that chilled me to the bone.
"But note this Olivia, if you don't kill him by Friday, I will have to take action, kill him myself and there will be consequences concerning you and your family," Marshall said with a subtle challenging tone in his voice.
I can't let him kill my family. I can't.
I looked at Blake and our eyes locked, as he displayed his adorable smile. My heart felt as if it was being shattered into a thousand pieces and I looked away, ignoring the slight hurt on his face.
"So even if you are having some sort of relationship with this boy, he will be dead either way. It's only up to you, whether you want your decision to affect your family or not," He continued with malice. "Do you understand?"
Without answering, I hung up.
He knew what my answer would be anyway.Blake went forward to me, putting his hand on my shoulder, "Is everything alright?"
I nodded, plastering a fake smile on my face, "Everything's great! I'll see you on Monday."
As I turned around to leave, I saw his mouth open like he was about to say something else but he never did.
I left the shopping centre, feeling his strong gaze on me until I was through the exit doors and on my way home.
