I woke up the next day, noticing a message from Freya.

-Freya-
Have you decided what you're gonna wear yet??

-Me-
Yep! I hope it's alright

I sent a picture of it to her, anticipating her reaction.

-Freya-
OH TESSA! You'll look so pretty!!!

I exhaled in relief.

-Me-
Thank you x

I stared at the dress laid out on my chair: this would be my first proper party with proper friends… but tonight it would all end.

Unexpected tears welled in my eyes.

I was about to leave for school when I heard a knock on the door.

Before I could answer it, Sophie was at the door, the visible smirk on her face told me it was definitely Blake.

"Hello!" I heard his voice from outside. "I'm Blake Evans."

Sophie turned to my with an expression that said: ooh he seems nice.

I avoided her gaze, hoping she couldn't see my blushing cheeks, "Bye Sophie!"

"Have a nice day at school!" She called in reply.

Once the door was shut, I turned to Blake and said: "Happy birthday!"

His face returned a smile, and he spread his arms wide embracing me into a hug.

"Thanks Tess."

I hugged him tightly, hoping all of my problems could be squeezed away.

Before he let go, he whispered to the wind, so quietly that I was sure he didn't say anything at all.

But the meaning of the words was so powerful that it would have been hard to miss:

"I love you Tessa. I hope you realise that."

School went by surprisingly quickly and before I knew it, it was 6pm - the party started at 7.

I got ready, making sure I remembered to pack the poison in a small bag - I couldn't forget the real reason why I was going.

I tied my hair in a loose bun and put on a small amount of makeup on my face. Aware that the time was now 6:55, I rushed out of the door worried that I would be late.

Sophie was waiting downstairs with a calm, optimistic look on her face, "You look amazing Olivia. Have fun but make sure you are home by 10pm."

"Thanks!" I forced a smile on my face."I hope I will."

I walked outside into the cold breeze, grateful that I had a coat on. Quickly, I arrived at Blake's house and anxiously rang the doorbell.

Deep breaths Olivia, deep breaths…

Aria opened it, and she was smiling for what was the first time in days, "Hey Tessa!"

I grinned, happy that she was feeling better now but I felt the fear in my stomach ease slightly.

She hugged me and we walked into the kitchen where everyone was hanging out.

But as we walked in, everyone stared at me.

I looked at the ground uncomfortably.

Is something wrong with what I'm wearing?

Was the invitation sent to me by mistake and they didn't want me here?

My fingers fidgeted impatiently, please can someone say something.

Thankfully, Freya broke the agonizing silence: "Woah! Tessa you look…"

Blake slid his hand through his dark hair and finished the sentence that was left hanging.

"...Amazing."
