I woke up on a hospital bed, with blinding pure white walls surrounding me and the sickening smell of medicine making my stomach churn.
"Tessa. You're awake!"
I adjusted my eyes to the brightness around me and saw Blake sitting beside my bed.
All of a sudden, my head hurt as if it was being scrunched up like a piece of rubbish. I winced in pain as I tried to sit up and observe my surroundings - everything hurt.
Ugh.
What happened?"Hey, hey," Blake whispered, taking my hand. "Take it easy."
I hesitated as I looked at his hand touching mine but the warmth of his soothed my freezing hand.
"What happened?" I whispered.
All I remembered was me walking up to the front of English class to present my presentation - everything else was a blur.
Oh gosh, did I faint?
Blake smiled and rubbed the inside of my palm, "You fainted but the doctor said it was due to the lack of food and stress. Did you have breakfast today?"
I shook my head, remembering what I had said to Mum and how I left without touching the lovely food she prepared for me. I felt the warning signs of tears brimming in my eyes, but forced them away. I was not going to let Blake see me cry.
I made a mental note of giving Mum a huge bear hug when I went home.
"Wait," I replied, confused. "How comes you're here then? Shouldn't you have stayed at school?"
Blake smirked, "I forced them to let me be with you; they'll give me a detention for it but I don't care." His face softened, "There's nothing worse than to wake up in a strange hospital room all by yourself."
I felt a lump form in my throat and tears threatened to spill.
Stop being a wimp, Olivia. I scolded myself.
However, a single tear had managed to escape against my will, and alone, it rolled down my cheek.
Blake's expression turned into worry and concern, "Tessa, you're amazing, beautiful and strong. Please don't cry."
He leaned in and wiped away the tear from my cheek, his hand lingering there possibly for just a split second. His mouth opened and he looked as if he was about to say something else when a nurse came into the room.
"Sorry to interrupt but please leave the patient now," She said coldly, as if she had repeated the phrase a thousand times already that day.
Blake removed his hand, stood up and brushed off the imaginary dust from his clothes awkwardly.
"Right, of course," He turned around to me one last time, "Hopefully I'll see you tomorrow. Text me anytime if you need me."I nodded feebly - lost for words, my mind was spinning. Subconsciously, I heard the nurse mumble something, then leave the room but my mind was internally screaming.
Screaming words I never thought I'd say or think, but now they seemed so obvious and so true:
I can't kill blake evans.
I just can't.
