Ella's POV

I'm worried as Hell about my dad. Mom said it he was going to be okay, but I heard another story in her tone of voice. If it really WAS going to be okay, why was she so scared?

At least she's sending someone to take care of us. The nanny isn't here when my parents are off your, and honestly, I don't like being alone. I'm not the best babysitter for my little sis, and I'm a walking anxiety attack.

The doorbell rang, and I was expecting it to by NJ, who is like a third parent to us. Image my shock when it was some weird rocker dude that I've never seen before...

"Hey, your mom, Harley, asked me to come spend the night. She said to tell you NJ was sick." He explained. "Oh, I'm CC, by the way. I'm a friend of your parents' band."

"I... See." I wearily responded to this freaky guy. "I'm Ella, their oldest. Come on in."

I let him in, examining his wardrobe. It wasn't too far off from what my paste us typically wear, but it was just... Strange. I'm not used to seeing anyone else like them. Plus, my parents don't have the whole sex, drugs, and alcohol thing going for them. This guy, not sure if he's on the straight edge or not. Mom must trust him to ask him to take care of us.

"So, how did you say you knew my parents again?" I asked.

"My band went on tour with The Hatchet Gamble. They're pretty fuckin' rad people! Oh, I shouldn't cuss, huh? I'm already doing bad at this." He nervously laughed.

To be honest, he was kind of cute. Wait... He's like thirty! He's my dad's age! I can't be crushing on someone that could be one of my parents friends! It's just, he's all loud and happy... Complete opposite of Jace.

He and I didn't really work out. At least, we didn't get super close before our fall out.

"It's okay. My parents cuss around us." I slightly laughed.

"Yeah, but I mean, your parents have sex in this house, and it'd be pretty messed up if I did that! Babysitters don't have the same standards as parents."

I had to keep my cool just 'cause he just mentioned my parents having sex... ew ew ew! Nasty! He does have a good point though.

"I guess." I nervously laughed. "I'll go get my little sister."

"Okay... Is there anything I can do for you guys? Like I mean, have you guys eaten yet?" He asked, messing with his hands.

I shrugged. "No, we haven't. I'm so used to my mom making dinner, I never really thought about it."

"Then I can do that for you guys." CC smiled.

"Thanks." I responded, trying to force a smile.

I began to walk up the stairs, when I heard him sigh and grab my arm. It was gentle, but it did take me by surprise. Didn't help I was already pretty shaken. There was a soft, sypmathetic look in his eyes as he let go of me and sat down on the steps. I sat down next to him, as he tried to come up with words.

"I know this is hard, alright." He delicately said. "I've known Jade for years, and I'm an adult, but I can barely handle this type of shit. I can't imagine what it's like to be a kid, going through all this. I just want you to know, it's okay to be scared."

"My mom said I have to be strong, for my sister, and for her." I muttered, folding my arms.

CC sighed. "As much as she'll kick my ass for saying this, don't listen to her. Okay? I have a friend that lost his parents when he was just a kid. He tried, for over twenty five years, to keep his head held high, and it broke him. I love him, because he's like a brother, but he's a trainwreck now. He dates prostitutes, drinks all his problems away. You don't want to end up that way."

"What am I supposed to do? You grow up fast when your parents aren't around. I've never known anything else than using your pride to shield out life. That's what my parents taught me."

"Were you ever a kid?" He asked.

"Not really." I nervously laughed.

He smiled. "Well, you're in luck, because it just so happens that I never grew up!" CC giggled. "This'll pass, okay? Tough times don't stick around forever."

"Thanks." I grinned.

He's still strange, but I think I'm warming up to him.
