Harley's POV
There was a bad storm outside, but I was safe in my warm home with my love. We were working on a song, him on the floor, and me on the couch. The fire place was on, and it was the most peaceful it's been in a very long time. Ella and Carolyn were at school, and the dog was cuddled up in his bed. Quiet; been a while since I've heard it.
"Have you talked to Ryder and NJ lately?" He asked, his smile suddenly gone.
"No," I suspiciously replied. "Not since the wedding. Why?"
Jade sighed. "They, uh, they decided it's time to get off the road. They're moving back to Colorado."
"Oh, well I'm glad for them." I said, confused as to why he was bringing this up.
"Harley... I'm ready to settle down too. I think it's time." He admitted, knowing it was going to upset me.
"Well, I'm not. I still have a lot more planned for my life before we give up all that." I scoffed.
"Babe, I know, but we're already on our second kid, my third. I need to stop being the rockstar, and be a father. I missed so much of Ella and Carolyn's lives being on the road. I'm not ready to steal another kids childhood."
"They were fine, we were fine." I sternly spoke.
He groaned, standing up. "You were fine."
"Where are you going?" I asked as he grabbed his jacket.
"For a drive." Jade snapped, then slammed the door.
"Asshole." I muttered, then sat back down, sulking.
Us touring is no different than any other working parent. The kids never seemed to have a problem with it before, why the Hell should they now? Maybe Jade is just trying to get sympathy by playing the family card, so he can get his way.
I don't know what his problem is. God, he can be such an ass sometimes.
Later
It was about one in the afternoon. Jade had been gone for a half hour, but I didn't give a damn. Let him go! He wants to act like he cares, then walks out the door on me.
My cell started to ring. I was shocked to see Ella's name on the screen, she should be in school.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Hi mom, they're closing school early 'cause of the weather. I tried to call dad to pick us up, but he wouldn't answer." She murmured.
I sighed. "I'll be there in a few minutes."
Seriously? What the fuck, Jade? At least answer the phone for your kid! I started to get in the car, but when I saw how bad the roads were, I decided to hop in the truck. As I drove, I saw an ambulance pass me. Hm, yeah, no one can handle bad weather in this state.
I arrived at the school, and the girls got in the car, both freezing from the cold rain. As I waited for the heat to rise, I turned on the radio. "I'll tell ya', there's been some bad accidents today. On my way down to the studio, I saw a semi get in a wreck with a few cars. Stay safe on those roads, folks. Now, here's some Train."
Even if I am mad at Jade, I do worry. I picked up my cell, dialing his number. While it rang, I realized the song on the radio was Calling All Angels. Shit, are you kidding me? The only time this song comes on is at the worst of times. Jade, for God's sake, PICK UP!
The phone kept ringing until it reached his answering machine. I heard his voice, and this all became too real. Please, let me be overreacting. As we pulled into the garage, his car still was missing. I told the girls to get upstairs and do their homework.
I was in such a hurry to get them, I forgot to turn off the TV. The news was on, giving overhead view of the wreck the disc jockey was talking about. There was a car in the mess that looked too much like Jade's. I rang his phone again, to no avail.
Finally, I gave in and started to call local hospitals back to back. Why do you do this to me, Baby? Why do you have to keep my heart like this?
