The Storm

Ryder's POV

Our LA house looked so strange, having everything we own packed up in boxes. When the storm hit, the movers decided finish the packing, and load up the truck tomorrow. So I sat, alone, on an empty hardwood floor with boxes stacked around me.

I watched through the window across from me as the rain came down hard. The fireplace crackled, and the water in the gutters faintly swooshed around like a river. Everything felt so... Peaceful. That's the way it's been since Nicky and I tied the knot; pure serenity.

I'm terrible worried about him though. Even though we were both extremely happy on our honeymoon, I still noticed he was reverting back to some of his old habits. He's not eating anymore, and I hear him cry himself to sleep every night. I'm worried he's going to go back to cutting and pill popping soon.

He's my little swan to protect. If he's hurting himself, I'm not doing a very good job, now, am I? Just, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I love him with all my heart, and... I just don't want to see him suffer. That's all I ask for, God.

Speaking of my Angel... He's no where to be seen. Normally he'd be down here with me, enjoying the beautiful storm, even though we don't have furniture. Shit, he really loves to make me worry, huh?

I got up from the floor, instinctively walking towards his studio. He wasn't in there, just more paintings hung up to dry. I'm used to seeing the swan and wolf paintings, but his newest ones were a little different. There were a lot of the wolf standing strong and proud, looking determined. Then, the polar opposite with the swan. It looked so hurt and fearful.

Glancing over to his current work in progress, I saw one of a wolf on a cliff, howling to a moon that had the image of a swan in it. The swan was... Crying. Is he trying to say something I'm not seeing?

I sighed, feeling fear creep in. My poor Angel is in pain, and I haven't been so far away before. I left the studio, still worried to see he was missing. It took a lot of looking, until I was down to one last room; our bedroom.

There were some pictures on the top of the dresser, of those few years we managed to be without worries. Now it's all coming crashing down. I approached the master bath, but was taken back when I realized it was locked.

"Nicky?" I called over the radio. "Nicky?! Baby?"

He wasn't answering, and I know his radio wasn't very loud. I pounded on the door, hoping I was being delusional. This wasn't delusion... He wasn't answering.

Finally, I knew something was wrong enough for me to break the door down. Might have fucked up my shoulder a bit, but I managed to bust it open. Nicky was out cold on the floor!

My Angel... Oh, my Angel. I tried to bring him around, but he wasn't responding. As much as I didn't want this to be my reality, it is. I scrambled for my phone, dialing 911.

I know I have to be strong, but it's damn hard. A few tears streamed down my face. Oh, Angel, don't do this to me.

Harley's POV

My worst fears had come to light. Jade was in that wreck... Fucking Hell. He's in surgery right now, and I was informed, he'll probably be there for a while. The nurse said he's got good odds, but I saw the look in her eyes. I fucking saw it, I saw she was lying.

Jade was in a horrific car crash. I knew damn well he'd be fucked up, and that nurse knew it too. I sat in the lonely waiting room while the rain poured outside.

I better call Ella. She never really got an explanation as to why I ran out like I did. I took a last sniffle as she answered the phone. "Hello?"

"Hey, Hun. How are you and your sister doing?" I softly asked.

"We're fine, but we wish you guys were home." She admitted.

"About that... Honey, your dad was in a bad car wreck. He's in surgery right now, and I'm probably going to have to spend the night at the hospital."

"Is... Is he going to be okay?" She weakly asked.

"Yeah," I lied. "But it's gonna take time. I need you to be strong for me, and for your sister. Take care of her for me, okay?"

Ella's voice shook as she replied, "I'll try, but... I'm really scared. I don't know what I'd ever do if I lost my daddy."

I didn't have the heart to tell her, I felt the same way. "Do you want someone like NJ to spend the night? Would that help?"

"Y-yeah, please." She whimpered.

"Alright, Honey. I love you." I said.

"Love you." She muttered, then the call ended.

I started to fish through my contacts for NJ, when I heard the emergency room lobby door open. Looking up, I was more than shocked to see Ryder. He seemed to be surprised to see me too.

"What are you doing here? Did you hear about Jade?" I asked.

"N-no, it was Nicky... What happened to Jade?" He timidly spoke as he sat down next to me.

"He... He was in a car wreck... What happened to Nicky?" I asked in shock.

He took long sigh. "Wish I knew."
