Nicky's POV
The papers had all been signed, the girls' rooms were ready, all we needed was them. Ryder and I were driving down to the foster home, which was about an hour or so away, to pick up our babies.
Sarah is the older one, she's about to turn five, and Savannah is the baby that's about a year and a half old. In their pictures, they looked like pure angels. I can't wait to finally meet them and take them home!
"Are you nervous?" Ryder asked as we drove through the thick trees, the city just coming into view.
I turned to look at him, seeing the sunshine glow around him. "Are you asked me, or yourself?"
"Both." He sighed.
"Well, I am, but nervous is good. It's okay to be scared, Baby. This is a big step for us." I reassured him as I leaned in and kissed his cheek. "You're going to do great, okay?"
"Whatever you say." He hopelessly muttered.
"Hey, stop with the attitude!" I scolded. "I'd smack you right now if you weren't driving."
Ryder laughed. "Alright, alright. I believe you, okay? I know we'll survive this, but I'm still scared."
"And that's okay, okay? I love you, and I'll be here for you through this. They're just as much my kids as they are yours."
"I know, I love you too, and I don't know what I'd do without you." He admitted.
"Goes both ways." I murmured, flashing him a soft smile.
Later
We walked into the foster home, being greeted by the two women who run it. They were a lesbian couple themselves, which is why they foster under an agency that specializes in LGBT adoptions. Both of them were total hippies though, but they were nice people.
One of them went upstairs to get the girls and their things, while the other explained to me that the oldest girl knows her and her sister are being adopted today, and she's very excited about it.
They've been here for almost a year! I can't believe it took this long for someone to adopt them. Then again, people don't always want a package deal or kids that aren't babies.
The woman came down the stairs with Savannah in a car seat, and Sarah trailing behind her. Sarah clung to her foster mom's leg the second she saw us. She's probably scared, considering we aren't exactly ordinary people. Like I've said before, I'm gothic and Ryder is the biker type.
"Sarah, these are the men that are going to adopt you and your sister." The woman said, looking down at her.
I leaned down, offering her my hand. "It's okay, Honey. We're here to help you start over."
She took a step away from the foster mom, looking at me for a moment. Then she ran into my arms, and I hugged her tightly, trying my best not to cry.
"Thank you." She muttered.
If only I could tell her, I should be the one saying thank you. Ryder took Savannah from the woman, and Sarah refused to let go of my hand as we walked out.
I helped her get in the car on one side, while Ryder buckled the baby in on the other. We exchanged smiles, without having to say what we already know. We're finally here, finally.
Ryder's POV
It was a long ride of Sarah asking all kinds of questions about her new home, new family, new life pretty much. She was really excited to hear she'll have a K9 friend, along with her own bedroom.
As we walked in the house, Hope came running down to greet Nicky. He picked her up, letting her lick his face.
"Awh, puppy!" Sarah cooed.
Nicky laughed and got down on the floor, letting her play with Hope. She squeezed her quite a bit, but Hope is a pretty good dog. Just sat there and took it.
I laughed, kneeling down and kissing Nicky's cheek. "I'm going to go lay the little one down upstairs."
"Okay, Babe. I should be up in a minute." He responded, smiling as he watched Sarah and Hope play.
Honestly, I couldn't help but smile myself. They were so precious together! And I could say, that adorable little girl, is my daughter. Wow... My daughter. I finally have a little girl, two in fact. Now I get why Jade is so overprotective of his own, and why he missed them so much when we'd be away. I really get it now.
