~sadie's a party pooper~
"holy shit! i've never been so drunk in my life!" noah screamed, dragging out his vowels.
the party was wild. as all of jack and wyatt's parties were. they were always chaotic, yet there was a pattern and order to things. people did coke in the bathroom. the same person always brought a keg full of beer. there were people smoking weed in the backyard. all six bedrooms were open in case anybody wanted to take the next step from grinding on one another in privacy.
jack was a particularly rich man who had a large house free for himself for the weekend. well, him and about two hundred people had it now.
sadie rolled her eyes, leaning against the wall of the house.
she watched as caleb and gaten jumped onto a couch and wrestled around, fake punching one another. noah just put his hands in the air and jumped on top of them, yelling, "i'm ready to suck some dick tonight!"
"i can't believe i have to deal with these dipshits for another year," sadie said.
millie was leaning against the wall beside her, observing. sadie didn't mind talking to millie in this kind of atmosphere because the general, sane public either don't care, the music was too loud, or they would think she was drunk. normally, she just ignored millie because talking to her made sadie sound crazy.
they were both waiting for finn, who hadn't shown his face yet. millie bit her lip.
"why isn't he here?" millie asked softly, barely audible because of the blasting music.
"maybe he skipped out?" sadie suggested.
millie shook her head, "not likely,"
sadie bit her lip, too.
"call him," millie urged.
sadie shook her head, "he's not going to pick up,"
millie sighed and leaned back against the wall.
sadie patted her sides, "so....what's it like?"
"to be a ghost?"
"yeah,"
millie looked up, thinking carefully about her answer, "uh....it was lonely for a long time. i felt really detached from everyone. it was boring because i couldn't do things,"
"like what?"
"pick up a tv remote to change ava's barbie movies to go to netflix,"
"why can't you?"
"i don't know. but ever since you put on the ring, i can do that stuff now. i just don't do it often because it creeps people out," millie said, her eyes still searching for finn.
"speaking of creepy," sadie said, her eyes landing on a middle-aged man haning out in the kithcen, "there's that fucking psycho again,"
"who?" millie said, turning her head. then her eyes landing on him, "huh. he looks familiar,"
sadie crossed her arms, "matthew modine. he's ms. ryder's ex-wife. he pretends to be a college kid and deals drugs for a living. he comes to all these parties and he scares the shit out of me,"
millie tilted her head and bit her lip, trying to find where's she's seen him before, "yeah. i think i saw him at wyatt's party a few months ago,"
"wyatt's party? you went to wyatt's party?"
"yeah. i don't remember much though. finn said i drank so much i passed out. he took me home, so it was fine," millie said.
"jesus fucking christ, millie, you were wild," sadie said.
suddenly millie perked up and saw finn come through the wooden door. he was wearing his usual white button down and a leather jacket with dark blue jeans. his hair was messy, uncombed.
a few people greeted him, to which he responded with a small smile.
then finn spotted modine and exchanged money with him.
modine gave him a small bag.
they were having a conversation during this. a playful one.
"sadie, what's he doing?" millie asked.
"i think he's buying drugs from modine," sadie said.
"what? why?" millie yelled, panic rising in her chest and tears forming in her eyes. her finn would never use drugs. never.
"i don't know," sadie said.
"tell him to stop," millie cried.
"i will," she said, finn as he went towards the keg to fill up his red cup of beer. sadie watched as he filled his cup to the top and started to sip from it. sadie tried to grab it from him.
"hey," finn said, "what the hell are you doing?"
"why are you drinking?"
"why aren't you?" finn replied, taking another sip.
"because i don't trust myself drunk. and i definitely don't trust you drunk," sadie said, trying to grab the cup out of his, but he kept pulling it away.
"you never had a problem with it before," finn said.
"things have changed, finn," sadie said, "now there's isn't just euphoria and joy when you drink. you don't drink because it's fun. you're drinking to forget,"
finn took another sip, before nonchalantly saying, "and if i am, what's wrong with that?"
"because depression and depressants don't mix," sadie said, grabbing the cup from him, throwing it in the trash.
finn didn't protest.
then sadie held out her hand.
"what?" finn said.
"the drugs," sadie said, beckoning him.
finn bit his lip, and took out the small bag and shoved it sadie's hand. they were full of white pills.
sadie examined it, then her mouth dropped, "xanax? are you kidding me right now?"
finn looked at the ground, playing with the zipper of his jacket.
sadie continued reprimanding him, "you know that mixing xanax and alcohol will kill you?"
"i know" finn said quietly.
sadie fell silent.
millie felt her heart stop.
even though the crowd around them kept moving, it felt like time had stopped.
sadie let out a breath, "finn,"
finn just kept looking down.
sadie bit her lip, and grabbed finn's arm, "come with me. i know what we can do,"
