~how to say goodbye~

millie sat in sadie's room for an hour. she didn't know if she was waiting for sadie to come back, or if she just wanted to be alone.

she was sitting in a stupid princess chair that sadie had gotten when she was like eight. it was millie's signature chair that she would always sit in whenever she went over to sadie's, but the wooden chair was tiny, and it felt weird for millie to sit it in it normally. so, usually, she threw her legs over the armrest and let the chair carry her bridal style. sadie would laugh every time millie complained about how small it was.

then don't sit in it, sadie would say.

no, it's my chair, millie would say, it just needs to be bigger

but now, it felt weird to even be sitting in it. because she felt so stupid. she was so stupid to sadie. she was being so self-absorbent and inconsiderate that sadie had actually tried to go on a date.

two seconds after sadie left, millie realized what a bitch she was being. sadie did have a life to get back to. millie didn't.

which is when sadie's words found their way to her head. the words that sadie spoke to millie shortly after millie realized finn knew she was there; when she wanted finn to put the ring on.

"if he sees you, he's going to want to be with you. how is he supposed to explain that he's in love with a ghost? what is he supposed to do next? marry you? have a wedding where he's the only person that can see you? have ghost babies-"

"sadie stop, please," millie said, tearing up, "i just want him to know-"

sadie shook her head, "millie, you have to let him move on. just stop....this. it's not going to end well, trust me okay?"

sadie was right. she was so right. and not just about finn, millie realized she was right about sadie herself, too.

she needed to let sadie move on. to live. to have a normal life. millie needed to get out of sadie's life.

she was the only person millie could talk to. literally. millie knew that by leaving sadie, she would be completely alone. with no one to talk to, no one to complain to, no one to have to care about her.

millie bit her lip, a tear sliding down her cheek.

she had to.

and she needed to get out of finn's life. he was a mess. and with every single move millie made, finn was going insane, thinking she was still there.

she needed to stop.

millie had to let them go.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
millie went to visit finn.
she told herself that she wouldn't. but knowing she would never ever talk to him ever again, never going to kiss him again, never get a hug or even an acknowledgement of her presence- she already felt her heart dropping to the bottom of her stomach.
but she had to see him again.
when she first approached his house, he was sitting at the dinner table. he wasn't touching his food. his arms were folded over the table.
his mom had just put her phone in her pocket, seeming to have come off from a phone call. finn's mom worked as a forensic scientist or something like that, from what millie remembered. she was nice, but busy.
