~treehouse tales~

"do you think this treehouse will be here forever?" a ninth-grade millie asked, leaning her shoulder on finn's. back then, finn was tiny, about five foot five, so his shoulder was easily accessible for leaning.

"probably not. the wood will decompose and grow weak and collapse. after that it just continues to be decomposed-" finn began.

millie slapped finn playfully on the chest, "i was trying to pave a path for a romantic moment, asshole,"

finn chuckled. the two were alone in the treehouse their families built. it was during spring break. finn and millie had grown close during that time. they'd been friends for five years, but they felt especially attached during spring break.

millie lifted her head off finn's shoulder and stood up, saying, "we should carve our initials into the wood. so whoever's finds this knows who built it,"

finn smiled as millie grabbed a nail from the table, and kneeled, writing near the doorframe. in small letters, she wote m.b.b. then she handed off the nail to finn, who scratched on a f.w.

millie sat behind finn, hugging her knees to her chest and stared at the initials as finn finished off the w in his name.

"i hope people know these are our initials. i don't want them thinking it stands for fat waffles or something," millie said.

finn laughed, throwing his head back lightly, saying, "i think i'm gonna go set that as my new name. you could be....magical bubbly balloon,"

"are you fucking kidding me? you get fat waffles. and i get magical bubbly balloon," millie said, giggling.

"yeah" finn said as he glanced over at millie, who was still giggling from finn's remark. finn wanted to take a picture. he felt that at this moment he could truly capture her beauty and glorious essence. he wanted to save it forever. and then he locked eyes with the one and only millie bobby brown. she was so beautiful with her short locks of hair getting into her face. he liked her.

millie felt the same way.

every time she saw finn, her heart fluttered. she wasn't really the best at flirting or being romantic, but she was romantic in her own way, she thought.

"hey finn?" millie asked, her voice almost at a whisper, keeping her eyes trained on finn's.

"hmm?" finn asked, raising his eyebrows,

"how....how crazy would it be if i asked to kiss you?"

finn felt his heart stop. he had prayed to the lord for this. finn cleared his throat, trying to cover up his nervousness by running a hand through his hair.

"you want to?" he asked.

millie blushed, her cheeks turning a crimson red, letting her eyes stay trained on their initials carved in the wood, "nevermind. that was stupid"

finn suddenly placed a hand on her shoulder, gently.

millie turned towards him.

finn planted his lips on hers. he meant for it to be a brief moment. but after the first kiss, he could taste the mint ice cream they had before climbing up to the treehouse. her smooth lips complimented his. finn felt fireworks exploding in his stomach. and he didn't stop.

he kissed her four or five times before pulling away.

millie smiled with her eyes still closed, before flicking them open to see finn smiling back at her.

"was that good?" finn asked.

"perfect," millie said, placing her arms around his neck to kiss him again.

and it was.

it was perfect.

millie was up there now.

she was curled up in the corner of her old treehouse, staring at their initials.

she was crying. she wasn't sure whether or not her tears were real, but the pain was real. even after death, she still felt the weight of the world on her shoulders.
