~ can't take my eyes off of you~

millie's parents returned three hours later. it was almost one in the afternoon by then.

millie stayed with finn all morning. there was something nostalgic about spending her morning watching television in her basement with him. usually they'd talk their way through the old movies on the turner classic movie movie channel, but ava woke up after charlie left, and he was forced to bore his eyes with ridiculous cartoons.

but, they made ava happy. so he watched them.

when millie's parents walked down to the basement, finn got up and thanked them for inviting him to stay. he was a pure gentleman, just as millie remembered him to be.

he left millie's house after that, heading towards his car.

millie hopped in the shotgun of his pick up truck. she pulled her knees close to her chest and rested her chin on her legs. it was a position she put herself in when she was worried or nervous. she didn't know why she did it now. if anything, she felt most at peace with him.

finn turned the radio on. as he turned the key to turn the car on, millie smiled. he kept it on her favorite radio station. her favorite radio station played old music from the '80's.

"now, one of the most requested songs of the day by one of my personal favorite bands, the police,"

finn stared at the radio as the guitar began to play. the all too familiar pattern of strings being plucked. finn stared at the song name on the radio and read its title, his mouth open.

every breath you take.
the police

"ooh," millie said, turning back towards the dj booth, "they picked a good slow dance song,"

finn smiled and leaned back in his chair, "nice,"

he couldn't take his eyes off of her that night.

it was formal night. it was the night he would give her the promise ring. he was nervous about it the whole day and worried about all night.

but after seeing her in her light purple dress, with a v-neck just low enough to highlight her figure, put him at ease. the waistline hugged her curves and her dress flared out- she just looked....beautiful.

millie turned towards finn, feigning offense, "you're not gonna ask me to dance?"

finn smiled teasingly and looked away.

millie smiled, her jaw dropping, "alright then. don't,"

she stood up from her seat and walked to where finn was sitting cross-legged. he giggled as she leaned in towards him.

she pressed one hand to his cheek, her lips brushing his as she pressed hers to his. she let her other hand lay on his shoulder. then she let it trail down his chest, towards his stomach. she could feel his heart pounding.

then she pulled away from their kiss abruptly and looked into his eyes, teasingly.

then she leaned in and dodged his lips, whispering in his ear, "see you on the dance floor,"

then she skipped away happily, twirling her way to the dance floor. she kept her eyes on his as she laughed.

finn stared at her, amazed. his heart was racing as he stood up and joined her.

she smiled in the most adorable way, as if she was a puppy excited to see her owner, and reached out her arms for a hug.

how could she go from sexy to cute in the span of ten seconds?

finn laughed and placed his hands on her waist and millie rolled her eyes, putting her hands around his neck, saying, "you can get closer than that,"

finn smiled and pulled her closer, so that their faces were inches away. finn could smell the tic-tac breath he had tasted a few seconds ago.

the song was at its chorus when they had started dancing.

finn's eyes found millie's and his smile persisted, as he said, "you look beautiful,"

millie giggled, "thank you,"

finn couldn't stop smiling, as he shook his head and looked at the ground, "god, i just love you so much. i just....tonight has been-"

"perfect?" millie answered, giggling.

finn nodded, watching as millie sang the words. finn raised an eyebrow, "i didn't know you liked this song so much,"

"it was my second favorite police song, after 'roxanne'" millie answered, "but now i think it's becoming my first. cheers to you for changing my favorite police song,"

~~

when finn snapped back into reality, the song was over and london calling replaced it. he took a deep breath in, calming himself. he felt the tears. they were making his eyes glassy and unstable. anything else and he would cry. he didn't want to. he didn't want to cry. not now. not in her driveway.

but he did. with one swift sob, the tears came out like vomit. he couldn't keep them in.

hearing the song made him miss her like crazy.

he wanted her back in his arms. he wanted to hold her just one more time and tell her he loved her. he wanted to run his fingers through her hair and let his fingers trace her skin. he wanted to hear her laugh and comfort her when she cried.

he wanted her so bad.

and it made his heart clench and his chest hurt.

ok i lied i'll post one tomorrow with more action i just wanted to add this in bc i heard this song yesterday and cried.
