"Father! Father!" I shouted enthusiastically while running towards him with my favorite picture book.
My adoptive father looked at me and smiled.
"Yes my son?" He asked.
He is sitting on his favorite rocking chair while mother is busy preparing dinner. But I caught her stealing glances at father and I while I happily sat on his lap.
"Read to me this book again!" I exclaimed in joy.
"Again? I probably have already read this book for you over a thousand times." He chuckled.
"But Father... This is the book you first wrote." I said as a stared at the picture book.
Father looked at me with his soft eyes and smiled warmly.
"Alright, but you have to promise me to eat your green peas later at dinner alright?" He laughed.
"Ugh, Father that's not fair!" I pouted.
Father burst out laughing while looking at my face.
"Alright I'll read it for you." He said and turned the cover.
I excitedly looked at the picture book while he read it.
"Once upon a time, there was a kind man living in a small village. He was very caring and everyone in the village loved him. The village was very peaceful and the people were very caring, helping one another whenever some one is in trouble. But one day, an army of soldiers came to the village and destroyed everything in sight. They sacked everything and left no one alive. The kind man was not in the village at the time and by the time he returned, he saw nothing but ashes of his once peaceful village.' father said.
"Father, why would the soldiers do that?" I asked.
Father smiled at me and looked out of the window.
"Some people in the world are not as kind as you think." He said.
"Let's continue shall we?" He asked with a warm smile.
"Yes!" I exclaimed.
"The man became overwhelmed by sorrow and sadness. He blamed himself for the deaths of his friends and the loss of his home. The man then had an idea, he wanted to be a hero so that he can prevent something like this from happening in the future. So for the rest of his life, he went from town to town in search for a way to save everyone in the world so that the world will be a peaceful place. He recruited many people who are just like him, they also yearned for peace. In time, the small group he formed turned into an army of soldiers. He then had the idea of overthrowing the selfish king of his country so that peace could be formed."
"Father, is peace very important?" I asked.
"Yes, it is son. A place where no one would be sad is a peaceful place right?" Father said.
"Yeah!" I smiled widely.
"But not knowingly, in search of peace, he also sought war. He eventually overthrew the selfish king but at the same time, he lost everything, his friends, home and family. He stood in the burning castle alone. He then realized, in search for a way to save everything, he also lost everything. the kind man cried in sorrow and begged god to forgive his sins. So he decided to take his own life, he lay down onto the ground and burned together with the castle."
Father closed the book. I turned to look at him and I could see tears coming down from his face.
"Father, what's wrong?" I asked.
"It's nothing son." He said as he wiped his tears.
"But you always cry whenever you read finish the book." I said.
