Dinner that day was very quiet, well, in an awkward way. Like immediately after the prayer, everyone just looked down at his or her food and ate. No chat or side talks. It was just weird.
I dropped my fork gently on the plate and sighed. I raised up my head and noticed that they all had their eyes on me. All of them.
I gulped and shifted uncomfortably on my seat. I fiddled with my fingers under the table. Just then, a warm hand enclosed mine and squeezed gently. I looked at our joint hands and traced the hand to the owner with my eyes.
Scott nodded, smiling gently at me. It was as if he was trying to tell me that everything was going to be fine. I smiled back at him weakly and looked away. Sharon stood up and looked at me. "Huh...I need to use the restroom now. Do you mind following me, Felicity?"
Of course, I didn't mind. I really wanted to leave here. Scott removed his hands, but not before giving it a final squeeze. I nodded at him again and stood up.
"You must come back, you two. Bailey--"
"We'll be back, Collins", Sharon said hastily. She grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the room, her legs moving fast. I had to walk faster to keep up with her pace. Once we got to the restroom, she turned to look at me, her hands on her hips.
"Care to explain to me why everyone was staring at you like you suddenly turned to a god."
I sighed and placed my hands on the granite countertop, my head facing downwards. "I don't know myself."
"You don't know?"
I looked at her and nodded. "Listen, Sharon, I really don't understand my life anymore. Everything is just going downhill."
"Not everything. Be specific, Felicity. It's your love life that is complicated and why? That's because you feel that you have to give a chance to everyone that likes you. In the process, you end up breaking their hearts and leaving yourself more confused."
"You don't understand."
"I do, hey. Listen, you need to set your priorities right. I told you from the outset that coming here, agreeing to this job was a mistake, a big one, but knowing you, you wouldn't listen."
"Stop talking about that. There's nothing I can do about that anyway. I can't back out now that I got the job."
"Nobody told you to. You're here to sing, not date. Focus, sweetheart. Ignore every guy until you are made. When you know you are emotionally ready, do whatever, I promise you, I won't bat an eyelid. Tell me, how can you date a guy on a wrong base and fall for another guy while--"
"I didn't fall for another guy."
Sharon chuckled. "Keep telling me that bull story. You need to tell yourself the truth, okay? It's obvious you have something for that Mike guy, but presently, that thing is causing trouble. Michael is set for war."
I ran my fingers through my hair in frustration. "Tell me what to do instead of explaining the things I already know."
"Forget the two guys. Concentrate on your career. Heck, forget all the guys. I don't even know which one of them doesn't like you."
"It's only Michael that likes me. Mike likes Gold." I wasn't even sure of who the Gold was anymore. "Scott likes Elsa, Thomas is just...oh well, he doesn't like me. Collins doesn't like me. I'm freaking sure of that." I couldn't help but notice the way Sharon blushed at that.
"Okay. Sorry to burst your bubble. Thomas looks at you like you are a fairy that just dropped from heaven. He's probably holding back because of the M guys."
