"Can I have a bacon and cheese omelette," Becca gestured with her tray, handing it over to the worker. I looked around the hub, which was the best place on campus to eat. I stood next to Becca and rested my hands on the metals bars where we were supposed to put our trays. The lady nodded behind the glass that separated us and went to cooking.
I don't know why, but I just couldn't get that guy out of my head. The way his face lit up with happiness and then contorted with anger. I just couldn't let it go. Why was I so stuck on him?
"Hello, earth to Ash," Becca waved her hands in front of my face. " You've been brain dead for the past 10 minutes, what's up with you." The hub worker handed Becca back her tray, now topped with an omelette and we shuffled to the next food station.
"Nothing. Just thinking." I looked at Becca giving her my best convincing smile. It wasn't strange of me to zone out like that, so I hoped she wouldn't press the situation. I turned to my left and saw a freezer with sandwiches insides. I went over and picked out a random one, not paying attention in the slightest as to which sandwich I picked up.
"She must be thinking about her mystery man from last night," Izzie filled in Becca, popping up out of nowhere. Damn Ghost.
I said nothing, while Izzie and Becca both looked at me with suspicious faces. I tried to remain as impassive as possible.
"It's nothing you guys. That guy just gave me a weird vibe is all," I walked ahead of them trying to get out of this situation. "Anyways, why are we wasting our breath talking about someone who I will probably never see again?"
We made our way to the register and I handed over my campus id to pay for the food. Gotta love the meal plan life.
"I guess, If you really feel that way," Izzie taunted in a sing song voice.
"I mean it, you guys. He is not worth my time," I tried to be as nonchalant as possible and shrugged my shoulders.
"How about we talk about more important things like..." I paused, trying to make them forget about the previous topic.
"I heard that there was going to be a big beach party on Thursday. WestWick students only, as a way of bringing in the new year." My voice oozed with false excitement.
"I know, I heard," Becca said, " I can't wait, it's going to be so much fun."
Izzie and I shared a knowing glance as we pulled our chairs back at the table. We set our treys down and began to eat in congested silence.
"What was that look?" Becca questioned, looking between the two of us. She knew something was up.
"Nothing," I said with a smile.
"We were just thinking about how you tended to behave at parties is all," Izzie clarified.
"I don't know what you guys are referring to," Becca raised her chin a little, just to prove her point further.
"It's alright, you can pretend that you don't know what we are talking about all you want. Let me help to jog your memory." I dug into my bag and pulled out a pretend notebook, and started to flip through the imaginary pages.
"September 14th 2016, we all went out to the Kappa's fraternity house. While Izzie and I are dancing, having good ol' wholesome fun, we started to hear whispers around us about a drunk girl. Peaking our interest, Izzie and I start to investigate and lo and behold, we see you piss drunk on some guy's lap with your top off doing some serious making out." I ended my reading with a pointed look in Becca's direction.
