Ashlyn
The first five minutes of the car ride were spent in silence. Shock stopped the both of us from being social. After what felt like a million years Axel finally broke the silence.
"Are you cold?" Axle asked me, turning up the dial to the heat in his car.
"Am I cold?" I repeated almost hysterical. "What the fuck was that back there? And why are you so fucking calm?" I looked over at him. His mask was back in place, the carefree guy dancing and flirting with me at the party was gone. Seeing him morph back into his asshole self sent a stab of pain I wasn't expecting.
I need the nice him right now. I looked down at my hands and realized that I was shaking and there were water droplets on my lap. Correction not near hysterics, I was actually hysterical.
I just left Izzie and Becca. Ice flooded through my veins as realization dawned on me.
"I need to go back Axel" I looked over at him panicked. "I need to find my friends. Becca and Izzie are still at the party."
"We can't go back," His voice was void of any emotion.
"W--What do you mean?!" I sobbed out, unable to control myself. Was he even listening to me?
He opened up the glove compare to his car and pulled out some tissues.
"Here," He nudged the tissues towards my hands.
"Listen, I don't know what happened to your friends, but I hope they're okay. I'm sorry, but we can't go back. And I don't know why I'm so calm, I just do well in intense situations, that's all." His head never turned away from the road.
So he was listening to my outburst after all. I knew deep down inside that he was right, we couldn't go back. What can two humans do against five 300 pound beast? I just wished I was stronger, that I could do more.
I'm a horrible friend.
The thought rocked my whole being. I stared off into the distance lost in my own thoughts. He nudged the tissue at me again and I realized that I never took it from him. I grabbed it and started to dab at my cheeks.
"What the heck were those things back there.... Wolves?" They couldn't be regular wolves, right?
"No they couldn't be, they were too big." I answered myself. " Those things were at least 6'0 tall and they were on all fours? And also how did they get to the beach?"
The gears in my mind turned as I tried to piece the puzzle together. I might not be able to help Becca and Izzie, but I can atleast get my story straight for the police. Those beast have to be put down.
If it wasn't for Axel I probably would have been dead. All traces of drunkness gone from my mind. You could basically call me 'Sober Sally' at this point.
I turned and looked at Axel, his body never moved an inch. I could tell that he was listening to me. I don't know how, but I just felt it.
"They were not normal wolves, there was something wrong with them," he blurted out. I looked at his hands on the steering wheel, they looked ghostly white as he tightly clutched the steering wheel.
I looked at the road ahead and saw the campus coming into view. To think that at the beginning of this week I was a carefree girl with my two best friends moving into the residence halls. We pulled into the parking lot and I noticed that there were many spots open. Probably still at the beach, I thought morbidly. Axel pulled into a spot and let himself out, then came to my side of the car.
