Axel
I stared into the crowd of people at the bonfire as everyone danced and laughed. I don't even know why I'm here. I sighed to myself. Packs are getting attacked left and right and here I was at a College bonfire. I should be home with my parents, I don't even know why I wanted to come back to WestWick. I thought school was important, but the longer I was around these humans with their petty problems, the more I realized that I didn't belong here. One of my old friends from last year waved at me from the otherside of the bonfire. I didn't wave back.
I decided that I needed to get rid of all of my human ties. They were holding me back from becoming the real me, the Alpha that I needed to be for my people. He looked upset at my blatant ignorance of his greeting. He started walking towards me and I scrambled trying to get away.
I hightailed it over to the punch table. I needed another cup of jungle juice if I was going to put up with fake reunions. As I poured, a familiar sweet scent mixed in with alcohol drifted over me, Mate. Her sweet scent of coconuts and shea butter washed over me. The deeper I inhaled, the more of her scent I could decipher. Was that papaya I was smelling too? Of course she would be at something like this, freshmen. I shook my head at the thought. I looked back into to the crowd trying to spot her and almost wished I hadn't. She was grinding up against another guy, her eyes closed and her smile wide.
What. The. Fuck.
Without a second thought I stormed over to my mate. As I approached, the smell of alcohol and lust filled the air. I stopped only seconds away from her and the deadman dancing. What was I even doing? She wasn't even my girlfriend, heck she probably forgot all about me. Humans don't feel the bond like us wolves do.
I shook off the thoughts, and turned to walk away. I glanced back at her and saw him put his hands on her waist and push her hips into his pelvis. Whelp! This is what happens when you give an inch. I stepped behind the human and ripped him away from my mate with a flick of my wrist. I will deal with the consequences later.
The boy fell to the ground next to my feet and looked up at me ready to square up. I looked down at the boy and glared at him. Hard. A little bit of my Alpha power seeped from me the longer I gazed at him. The boy's face turned white and he scurried away on all fours. He probably didn't even know why he was feeling so scared.
That's what I thought.
My mate turned around looking for her dancing partner and smacked right into my chest. I looked down at her. Her collarbone length curly hair was turning into a large curly afro around head due to the humidity. Her big brown eyes were every shade of brown you could possibly imagine, ember, caramel, and there were bits of dark chocolate sprinkled around. I watched as her full lips puckered with confusion and then realization.
It was at this point that I realized that I had no idea what I had just started. Now what?
She froze as made eye contact with me. I took a step back and gave her one of my best smiles, "We gotta stop meeting like this."
Really? That's what we are going with? I internally shrugged my shoulders at myself. Fuck it.
I was done playing like I didn't care. She was my mate and if I wanted to talk to her than I would. I would deal with the consequences later. Fuck the impending war, fuck the fact that she was a human, and fuck anyone who had an issue with it. I don't know why the goddess thought that now was the best time to give me a mate. Let alone a human mate which happened maybe 3 times in a century. It was rare, and most werewolves who had a human mate were omegas.
I watched as her brown skin started to get an red undertone, especially her ears. Is she blushing? The thought drove my wolf wild.
"I thought you hated me," she turned her face away from me. "You're always so cold towards me." Her words slurred together, creating a large mass of syllables.
