Ashlyn
The rest of the drive was uneventful. Once we reached the upper part of Florida the traffic started to thin out.
Becca, Izzie and Kyle kept the conversation going for most the ride, while Jason just made little comments here and there.
I kept to myself for the most part, mulling over what Axel and I had talked about before. I felt more connected to him now than ever before.
I tried to be active in the conversation to keep my thoughts upbeat and positive. For the most part it worked, thoughts of mother seemed to come in my head and fly out just as quickly.
I looked over at Becca and Izzie and smiled as they laughed at some joke Kyle had made. It's crazy that we all ended up in this together and what's even crazier is Izzie's sudden personality change. She seemed more and more like her old self with every passing minute. I wonder what made her snapback?
"We are nearing the pack lands." Axel's voice tore me from my thoughts. "We are going to try to go as far as we can into the forest with the car, then we will have to walk from there."
"Wait, hold up! This car isn't meant for woodsy terrain." Dad objected from the back of the truck. I had almost forgot he was there given how quiet he was.
"Sir, we have no choice. Driving the car into the woods allows for us to have a shorter walk, which would be benefit all of us."
"What if you lead other people in?" Kyle asked.
"That's a risk we gotta take. If we walk from where the normal drop off point is at, it will take us at least an extra day and we are already looking at 2 days of walking in the woods with, no offense, people who aren't in very good shape."
"Watch your mouth Axel," I huffed in disagreement. " I like to think that I am very in-shape." I stuck my nose up and pushed out my chest to prove my point.
"I agree" Izzie stated looking just as offended.
Axel looked me over and rolled his eyes. "Sure.... Listen when was the last time either of you did a 5k?"
I stared him, then leaned back in my seat defeated. "Fine, you win."
"Exactly," Axel chuckled. "Don't be like that Ash, I'm just trying to break it down for you. This won't be an easy journey. Plus we only have enough food to last up for two days."
"Okay then, so how long until we get there?"
"I would say about 45 minutes, but in about 10 minutes the terrain is going to start getting bumpy."
"Fine, I guess there is nothing we can do about it. You can drive it through the woods." My dad's deep voice came from the back.
I rolled my eyes at his response. Did he really think he was in control in this situation? We were literally going to a werewolf's pack, full of people who turn into wolves and could potentially kill us all. He was honestly here just for the ride at this point.
Everyone politely ignored my Dad's comment. That is except for one person.
"Really, Dad?" Jason just had to respond. "I think they were going to take us that route weather we liked it or not."
My dad chuckled at the statement. "I guess you're right."
I turned my head, and watched as we passed through the sleepy city of Jasper, Florida. It was pretty good place for a pack to hide out at. There weren't many occupants and the city was literally just a couple of blocks. There wasn't much going on out here.
