"So you've found your mate, huh?"
I heard the door close and saw Kyle leaning against his tall dresser. Kyle was of course sporting his uniform, a white shirt with a flannel and oversized jeans.
"Can we not talk about this?" I replied mustering all the patience I had within me. My mate was obviously distressed and all I could do was joke about her feeling tingles. I wanted to comfort her, but I also knew that getting too close to her would be an issue. Ashlyn was like a drug to my wolf and I, and unfortunately it seemed like we overdosed last night. Now I couldn't get enough of her. She was still trying to process the events from last night, while I was fighting every instinct in my body telling me to go to her. I don't have time for this.
"Okay" Kyle concedes, "but you're going to have to face this whole mate thing sooner or later, even if the conversation isn't with me."
"But, you know as well as I, that being mated right now is pretty difficult not to mention that she is a human too. The odds are pretty much stacked against us." My mind started to race about how my pack would take having a human Luna. They would flip their shit.
Not to mention that she is black, most young werewolf's won't care about her skin color, but some will. Back during slavery times, although wolves never engaged in slavery, they definitely gained the racist and discriminatory attitudes. They just didn't understand how black people could allow themselves to become slaves. In their minds they were below omegas. While times have changed and so have people, since us werewolves were so disconnected from society it's been a VERY slow change in attitude. The younger generation that goes to College in the human world and interacts with humans understands more, but the older members of the pack just don't get it.
I believed that my pack would grow to love her, but it would take some time. They just haven't been exposed to many people of different ethnicities, since we stay in our protected borders. But they have been exposed to Love and Hip-Pop and The Real Housewives. Let's just say that those shows don't give the best representation of black people.
"Yeah, thanks for pointing that out. That never occured to me," my voice dripped with sarcasm. "What the heck was that last night anyway?"
"Your guess is as good as mine, bro" Kyle lamented. We both knew what it was, but neither of us wanted to acknowledge it. It was the doctor's people.
"Don't call me bro" I said deadpanned.
"Look, I need to make a couple of phone calls, I need to know if anyone knows anything. The werewolf attacks are getting more reckless and these wolves are becoming more bold. We need order." With that, I pushed myself off of my bed and left the room.
I needed some air and being in that room was starting to feel suffocating. As I made my way out of the residence hall, I saw a kid still dressed in last nights attire in the lobby hobbling into the building with a cast around his leg. An older man and woman followed behind, worry filled their faces. This is going to be a shit show.
I didn't have an exact destination, so I wondered and by instinct I was walked towards the gardens. I saw the familiar bench come into view and I plopped down. What am I going to do about this? I was about to be the alpha of the largest pack in the US and even I was getting nervous about these attacks. They aren't random and they aren't just some wolves. It's turning into an army, all over the country wolf attacks are becoming more and more common.
The attacks started happening around two years ago. At first it was just one or two wolves, and it seemed random. We had all thought it was rouges who had finally went mad. Then the attacks started to become more and more frequent, and more vicious to boot. This past summer was the worst attack. In mid July, a pack of 30 wolves ran rampant throughout SoHo in Manhattan, killing humans as they went. It was then that we all realized that the attacks were planned, these weren't random rouges. They were of sound mind and had able bodies, our fellow brothers and sisters. For awhile it baffled us all, why were they doing this? What was the goal? Who would do this?
