"What?" said the 6'0 ft. tall girl standing in front of me. Her long eyelashes almost touching her cheeks as she blinked. My Mate was wearing a pink and white striped tennis dress that showed off her rather large bust. Her curly hair was piled on top of her head and her tightly wound curls bounced with her every movement. She had cocoa brown skin, and chocolate brown eyes to match.

At first I was overwhelmed with happiness looking at her. Her large brown eyes, looked at me with  curiosity. A million thoughts probably flowed through my mind. Then I remembered where I was and shut down.

I assessed every part of her face. She was beautiful and frankly, it made me angry. Why oh why, did the Goddess have to give me a mate now. This was the worst timing. She flinched back from me, noticing my mood change. I guess it had begun to show on my face. She was perfect, and I couldn't have her.

"Watch where you're going, freshie" I bit out through clenched teeth. I couldn't stand to look at her, to see the person I wanted most, but couldn't have.

"Excuse me," she replied, anger evident in her voice, "Maybe if you were looking where you were going, I wouldn't have bumped into you." I knew that if I spent any more time with her, I would end up falling for her. I couldn't let that happen.

"Whatever," I barked out and pushed past her.

Just great, I thought to myself as I walked to the school garden. I could feel her eyes on me as I walked away from her.

As I rounded a corner away from the dormitory, I came across a yellow brick pathway that lead me to my destination, the garden. A clear glass building that let in all the sun one would dream of. It was beautiful out here. Lining the pathway to the garden was yellow and white tulips. The aromas that the garden gave off just after a rain shower reminded me of my pack and running through the woods with my family. I wanted to go back to them, but I also wanted to finish off my senior year. This was the closest I could get to familiar comforts.

As I got closer to the transparent building I saw the familiar worn down wooden bench just outside of the entrance of the greenhouse. I sat down on the bench, sighing. Life just had to get more complicated. I closed my eyes, and tried to imagine life back with my family, but if I was being honest I didn't really have too many friends back home to miss. I tried to stay away from others, and shied away making too many deep contentions with other pack members. As Alpha it was better to be cold and distance, then to be a warm and fuzzy Alpha. Those type of Alpha's were the ones that got challenged constantly. A buzzing in my pocket jolted me out of my thoughts.

I pulled my phone out of my pocket and looked down at the brightly light up iphone. The ringtone 'don't pick up yo phone' started blaring through the phone's small speakers. I pressed talk.

"Hey dad," I sighed.

"Son," my father said gruffly, "did you make it to the school alright."

"Yeah, Dad," I replied, rolling my eyes. I wouldn't have picked up if I didn't get here safely.

"Don't, 'yeah Dad me,' you know as well as I that the attacks have been getting closer and closer to us," He sounded more wolf than human at this moment. "The only reason I allowed you to go back to school was because it was only a couple of hours away."

"I know Dad," I responded deadpan. Geez, am I about to get a lectured now. Sometimes I never felt good enough for my father. His standards were high and I always fell short. Plus, the fact that I now had a human mate would probably put me on an even higher ranking on his shit list. I couldn't tell him about her. He would require me to reject her right here and now, but wasn't ready to do that yet.
