Joe had been trying to get Ruby out of her room for hours now and it was making everyone upset. He returned downstairs to see you sitting with your head in your hands. Joes heart clenched slightly. This situation wasn't making anyone happy, but he be damned if he just gave up. "Hey." He mumbled, kneeling in front of you. "Are you okay?" You lifted your head, thankfully not crying.
"Of course. Is she alright? Have you spoken to her? How is she?" You bombarded him with questions making him smile a little bit.
"She won't speak to me or open the door for that matter." Your face fell and you bit your lip, guilt taking over you.
Joe rested his hands on your knees, sensing your emotions. "I feel so bad. This must be so crappy for her." Joe nodded, resting his head on your knees.
"She never knew her mother. For her whole life it's just been me and her." You nodded, understanding. No more words needed exchanging. You placed your hand on his head, stroking his thick, curly hair to try and offer the slightest piece of comfort. "It's just gonna take some time." He muttered, seemingly relaxed by the contact.
You stopped. "You mean, you want this to continue?" Joe lifted his head to look at you. His eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"Yes. Why wouldn't I?"
"It's just," his eyebrows raised. "She's not happy about it. I thought you might've wanted to break up." You explained glumly.
He shook his head and squeezed your knees. "No. No, I want you in my life and although it sounds selfish she's going to have to get used to other people being in my life." You nodded in agreement. "Do you want to break up?" He added worriedly.
"No! God, no. I really like you Joe." His face softened and a smile finally appeared.
"I really like you too." He leaned closer ever so slightly.
"I know. You told me earlier." He grinned before you placed both hands on his cheeks, drawing him in for that kiss you missed out on earlier.

——another few months later-whooo———-

Joe had to make his mind up quickly on who would look after Ruby when he and the rest of the band went away for two nights. His parents lived miles away and his brother wasn't exactly one to have the best experience with children.
Who were the closest and best choice at the moment and he was lucky that you happily agreed.
"Are you sure? I thought she didn't like me." You asked Joe as he double checked his bag.
"Baby, she does like you, she's just a bit upset about this whole relationship." He looked over his belongings one last time before turning to you with a small smile. "It's two nights, what could go wrong?" You nodded in agreement although the nerves were still building up inside you. "Come here." He demanded quietly. You strides towards him and immediately became wrapped in his arms. "I'm gonna miss you so much." He mumbled in to your hair causing you to giggle just a little bit.
"Joe, we've spent nearly two months apart before and we were both in the same city. I think we can do two nights." You reasoned, looking up at him lovingly. He loved it when you did that, but you didn't know.
"I know. But knowing you're here, in my house,  looking after my girl. Man, it's gonna he hard." He huffed, letting go of you slightly. "I hope Ruby isn't going to miss me too much." He looked off to the side and got lost in his thoughts for a few seconds.
"She'll be okay. She's here with me." You smiled to try and cheer him up but he only nodded and made his way to Ruby to give her his 'goodbye haggle'.
You stood by the door with Ruby as Joe stood by his car waving at the two of you. "You be good for (Y/N), okay?" He asked Ruby who simply nodded. "I love you sweetie pie." He called to her again causing her to smile. "Bye baby!" He called to you before getting in to the car and driving away.
You both stood there until Joe's car was no where to be seen. Turning towards Ruby, you smiled as she looked up at you. "So, what do you wanna do today?" You asked cheerfully. Ruby just shrugged and continued to stare up at you. "Is there anywhere you wanna go? The zoo? The pool? Uncle Pete's house?" She blinked a few times, but still, nothing. "Okay..." You answered, disappointment clear in your voice. You walked away before an idea popped in to your head. Something you and Ruby always loved to do before she found out you and her dad were dating. "Guess I'll just have to bake and eat these chocolate chip cupcakes all on my own." You called as you continued to trot towards the kitchen. Within seconds Ruby was racing ahead of you, excitement and happiness now bubbling inside of her.
You smiled and picked up an apron, handing her one as well.

The kitchen was a mess. A war zone, even. Flour had covered every surface and somehow you had gotten egg in your hair. But you didn't mind. Ruby was smiling and that's all that mattered. "How long are they going to take?" She asked as she stared at the delicacies in the oven.
You snickered and carried on wiping the surface down. "About thirty minutes. Why don't you pick something for us to do whilst they bake?" She looked at you and it was clear the clogs in her brain were moving. "Can you do my hair?" You stopped cleaning and looked down at her. She had never wanted to do anything like that with you before. According to Joe, only he and Meagan were allowed to touch her hair. She was too scared of anyone else doing it. You smiled and had to compose your self from the emotional wreck you were becoming.
"Of course. You get the stuff while I clean." She nodded and ran off upstairs. You grinned to yourself and restrained from calling Joe to celebrate. Maybe, just maybe, Ruby was accepting you.
