It had been a few months now since Joe had been away for that weekend, and things were going swell.
You and Joe were extremely happy together, not to mention that Ruby had grown to love you. However, that would all change when Ruby overheard a conversation between the two of you...
She was walking towards her room to get her toys so she could play with you, when she heard a small giggle coming from her dads room. She creeped towards it and hid behind the partially open door.
"I'm serious! I know we haven't been dating for that long, but, I can really see myself being happy with you." Joe admitted as he put washing away. He turned to look at your figure on the bed and smiled. You smiled back and sat up.
"Are you going soft on me Trohman?" You teased, grinning when he kneeled on the bed, crawling to you.
"No. I'm just saying, I don't know. I really like you and maybe, we could have a future together. I nice, permanent future." He emphasised 'permanent' and looked up at you hopefully.
"What? Like get married? Have a few kids? Watch you perform until you're like 60?" Joe smiled even more and nodded.
Ruby's eyebrows furrowed. More kids? Surely she was the only kid her dad needed.
"Why not?" You giggled and leant in to kiss him.
"I'd like that." You agreed, finally meeting his lips. Though the kiss was quickly broken when you both heard a loud crash.
Both of you raced to Ruby's room to find her throwing all her toys around, specifically the ones you had bought her.
"Ruby!" Joe exclaimed, catching her attention. "What do you think you're doing?" His face now displayed anger as his child stared up at him with the same expression.
"I'm getting rid of all the things (Y/N) gave to me!" You looked at her in confusion. You thought she liked you now.
"Why?" Joe looked down at her, face still hard.
It didn't take long for Ruby to burst in to tears, this causing Joes face to soften immediately.
"Because I was always your girl! And now you have a new girl and you don't care about me anymore!" She whimpered. Joe knelt down and asked her what she was talking about. "You don't want me anymore! You want to have other babies and forget all about me." She sobbed in to her small hands and landed in Joes arms.
"Sweetheart, you'll always be my girl. No one comes before you. You know that. And I thought you wanted a baby brother? That's what you told me the other day." He reasoned in a soft voice. Ruby vigorously shook her head and climbed out of Joe's embrace.
"I don't!" She crossed her arms and sat on her bed, back to Joe and you.
Joe said something about making dinner and grabbed your hand to take you with him. He looked upset. Really upset, and he hadn't said anything at all in twenty minutes.
You couldn't keep doing this. Not because of Ruby constantly changing her mind about you, but because you were causing a void between father and daughter and it was hurting everyone.
"Joe?" You asked quietly from the table as he stirred the pasta.
He looked up at you plainly.
"I think we should break up." You croaked before he rushed over to you and kneeled before you.
"Why? Did I do something wrong?" You shook your head. "Do you not want me anymore? Did I freak you out with that talk this morning?" You shook your head as you began to cry.
"No." You placed a hand lovingly on his cheek, his hand soon holding it. "I love the idea of being with you. I want you, so much, but I'm tearing this family apart and I can't come between you guys." Joe shook his head.
"Ruby will get over it, it'll be fine." He tried to reason, but you just shook your head again.
"Joe, she needs you. And I'm being selfish and taking you away from her without realising. It's better if I go so you two can be a family again." Joe looked at you stunned, eyes glossy.
"You'd do that?" He asked, barely above a whisper. You nodded. "But," he paused, trying to think of a reason to make you stay. "We all could be a family." He looked up at you hopefully but that broke when you denied him.
"I'm sorry." You whimpered as you grabbed your coat and headed for the door. Quickly, Joe grabbed your hand, keeping you from walking away. You looked back at him and soon his lips were on yours. Every bit of passion you felt for each other, poured in to the kiss that would be your last.
He eventually let you go and watched as you walked out the door, in to the rain, and ran to your car.
Joe felt nothing but heart break as your car drove off.
