Chapter 5 "To Protect"

Halstead stands in the room holding Shaylynn in his arms.
Ruzek stands up and walks over to him, "I'll leave you two alone" he tells Halstead patting him on the shoulder.
After Ruzek leaves the room Halstead can feel Shaylynn start to shake, "Shaylynn, are you alright?" he asks her.
Shaylynn looks up at him, her eyes are glazed over and she has a panicked look on her face "I have to get out of here!" she tells him throwing the blanket and pushing him to the floor.
She runs from the room, runs back to the dressing room, grabs her bag, and runs out the back door to her car.
Halstead tries to get on his feet quickly to chase after her but he's five seconds too late.
By the time he makes it to the back door Shaylynn is speeding off.
"SHAYLYNN!" Halstead screams at her.
Halstead runs to the front of the strip club, "Shaylynn took off!" he tells Hank who's standing with Brett and Dawson who are getting bags out of the ambulance.
"What do you mean took off?!" Hank questions.
"She took off!  She's in survival mode!  Get as far away from the place where the trauma happened!  Back in the room, she started shaking, looked up at me with glazed over eyes and said she had to get out of there! She pushed me to the floor and took off running!" Halstead tells him.
Hank looks at Brett and Dawson, "I'm sorry you two had to come out so late for nothing!" he tells them.
"It's alright!" Dawson says, "On our way back to the Firehouse we'll look around for her."
"Thanks!" Hank says, "That would be appreciated!"
Dawson and Brett get back into the ambulance and head back to the Firehouse.
"Atwater, Antonio take your car and go search for Shaylynn! Halstead and Ruzek will be in the van!" Hank tells them.
All four men take off running not bothering to ask what he and Alvin were going to be doing.
After the others are gone and the patrol officers are busy with the other guys who were inside, Alvin and Hank slip off to Alvin's car and drive off with Nico in the backseat.

Driving around for thirty minutes Halstead hasn't found Shaylynn.
The first thing he did was call Mary to see if maybe she headed for home. He then called Emily, Sam, Sophie, Butch and all the other guys with no luck.

Making her way through the dark, Shaylynn finds what she's looking for. Turning the door handle she quietly walks in and sits in a corner.
Hearing noises in his Quarters, Severide turns on his light and is startled to see Shaylynn sitting there.
"Shaylynn, what are you doing here?" he asks her.
She looks at him and he sees her eyes, "I had to get away from there!" Shaylynn tells him in a frightened tone.
"Had to get away from where?" Severide asks her thinking something bad happened between her and Halstead.
"From the bad place! From the bad men!" Shaylynn tells him then she starts shaking.
Severide quickly gets up out of his bunk, rushes over and sits down beside her.
"Shaylynn, you're scaring me! What happened to you?" Severide asks her.
"They gang raped me! I couldn't do anything about it! Four men held me down while another would rape me then they would switch!" she tells him and starts crying.
Severide puts his arms around her, "Shaylynn, I have to call Jay!" he tells her.
Shaylynn aggressively shakes her head 'no', "He can't know about this! He only thinks one guy raped me! If he finds out I was gang raped, he won't want me anymore! Kelly, those guys broke me!" she tells him and starts crying on his shoulder.

Forty minutes into looking for Shaylynn, Halstead's phone rings.
"Halstead!"
"I have someone that belongs to you!" he hears Severide say.
Halstead let's out a sigh of relief, "You're at the Firehouse right?"
"Yeah!" Severide says.
"Are Gabby and Sylvie there?" Halstead asks him.
"Yes," Severide says.
"Can you have them look her over?!" Halstead asks.
"Gabby and Sylvie just took Shaylynn to the Chief's quarters. They're going to check her out there!" Severide tells him.
"Alright! I'll be there in five minutes!" Halstead tells Severide hanging up.

Arriving at the Firehouse Halstead hurries inside and sees Severide in the Common room.
"How is she?" Halstead asks Severide after walking up to him.
"Don't know! They haven't come out yet!" Severide tells him.
"Jay, there's something I need to tell you!" Severide tells him, "What I'm about to say Shaylynn didn't want you to know!"
Halstead looks at Severide with a very concerning look.
"She told me she was gang raped," Severide tells him.
Halstead feels ill.
He's mad!
He's pissed!
He wants to get his hands on these guys and just squeeze the life out of them.
But mostly he's upset that Shaylynn didn't want him to know and concerned why.
"Why didn't she want me to know? Did she tell you?" Halstead asks Severide.
Severide nods, "She said if you found out you wouldn't want her anymore."
Halstead shakes his head, "I can't believe she would think something like that let alone say it!"
Dawson and Sylive walk out into the Common room.
Halstead looks over and sees them, "How is she?" he asks them.
Sylvie walks away, Dawson looks at Severide then looks back at Halstead.
"It's alright you can talk in front of him," Halstead tells her.
"She's really shaken up! During the exam it was discovered she has multiple internal tears and she refuses to go to Med" she tells Halstead.
Halstead walks away, "Thanks, Gabby!" Severide tells her.
Dawson walks toward the bunkroom.
Severide walks over to Halstead and puts his hand on Halstead's shoulder, Severide notices he's crying.
"I should have been there! I should have been there to protect her!" Halstead tells Severide shaking his head.
"You can't beat yourself up about this!" Severide tells him.
Halstead looks at him, "Why can't I?! She's my wife! No matter who she is or what she can do, I'M SUPPOSE TO PROTECT HER!"
