Chapter 23 "Going To Hurt Me"

Severide turns his body a little to look at Halstead with a pissed off look on his face, he turns back and looks at Shaylynn, "You're right! I'm not Marshall. It's me, Kelly!" he tells her.
"Kelly?" Shaylynn asks.
"Yes, I'm the father of three of your kids! Shannara, Dominic, and Destiny!" he tells her, "Jay's here too!"
"Jay?" she questions.
"Yes, Jay your husband. Shaylynn, Jay's here for you! I'm here for you! Whatever you need we can get for you!" Severide tells her, "But you have to put down the gun."
"What I need is to get away from here!" Shaylynn tells him with her gun still pointing at him.
At that moment a black truck comes speeding up behind her and slams on its brakes. The passenger door is pushed open.
Shaylynn turns around and quickly walks to the truck.
Halstead looks in and sees it's Butch driving, "BUTCH, NO!" he yells as Shaylynn slams the door shut and Butch speeds away.
"FUCK!" Halstead yells "Now I'll never find her!"
Severide turns around and gives Halstead a dirty look, "What?!" Halstead asks.
"Why didn't you keep your fucking eyes on her after she received that sort of news?!" Severide yells at him, "Of all people you should have known she would go over the edge!"
"I don't need your shit right now, Kelly!" Halstead tells him getting in his face, "I have to figure out what I'm going to tell my kids!"
"How about their father couldn't keep his fucking eyes on their mother!" Severide says.
This pisses off Halstead resulting in Halstead laying off and punching Severide which in turn Severide punches Halstead.
Hank runs over and gets in between them, "This isn't going to help get Shaylynn back!" he yells at them.
"What am I going to tell my kids about their mother?!" Halstead asks Hank.
"You know you're not the only one who has kids with her!" Severide says to Halstead.
"Where do you think Butch would take her?" Hank asks Halstead and Severide.
Both of them shrug their shoulders.

An hour later, Butch is pulling up in front of a house.
"Thanks, Butch!" Shaylynn tells him as she opens the door.
"Anytime!" he tells her.
Shaylynn gets out and closes the door, Butch then pulls away.
Walking up the steps Shaylynn knocks on the door.
The door opens, "Shaylynn?!" Natalie says surprised, "Come in!"
Shaylynn walks in as Natalie closes the door, "What can I do for you?" she asks.
"I need your help!" Shaylynn tells her.
"Of course! Anything!" Natalie tells her.
"I need to lay low for a little while and was wondering if I could stay here seeing I'm probably going to be needing medical attention and don't want to go to Med," Shaylynn tells her.
"Yes, sure!" Natalie tells her, "What about Jay?" she asks Shaylynn.
"I need time to clear my head so you can't say anything to Jay or Will!" Shaylynn tells her.
Natalie looks at Shaylynn confused, "Jay doesn't know you're here?" she asks.
Shaylynn shakes her head 'no'.
"Shaylynn, I don't know about this! Will does come by here pretty often" Natalie tells her.
"Before he comes by, I'll leave!" Shaylynn tells her wobbling a little bit as she puts her hand on her forehead.
"Are you okay?" Natalie asks.
"I'm tired and don't feel good" Shaylynn tells her.
"Why don't you go upstairs to the guest bedroom and get some rest," Natalie says walking Shaylynn over to the stairs.
Shaylynn shakes her head, "Thank you, Natalie!" she says and starts walking up.

Two hours later, there's a knock on the door.
Natalie answers it, "Will?" she says.
"Were you expecting someone else?" he asks her.
"No, no! I just lost track of time!" she tells him moving to the side so he can come in.
"You wouldn't believe the end of my shift! Shaylynn came in. Ethan and I had to give her and Jay some devastating news" he tells her.
"What was the news?" Natalie asks.
"One of the twins passed away," Will tells her.
Natalie gets a depressed look on her face and looks up at the ceiling, this makes Will look up also.
"What are you looking at?" Will asks her.
Natalie looks at him, "Nothing! Nothing at all!" she tells him.
"Natalie, you are a terrible liar! What's up there?" Will asks her.
"Shaylynn's here!" she tells him.
"She's what?! I have to call Jay!" Will says pulling out his phone.
"Will, you can't do that! She says she wants time to clear her head!" Natalie tells him.
"Nat, Jay is beside himself wondering where she is! She took off out of the hospital and ran all the way down Ashland Avenue to the train overpass. Jay called me and said they caught up with her and she pulled a gun on Kelly. She didn't recognize him or Jay!" Will tells her.
"She must be better now because she knew who I was and came here for help!" she tells him.
"MOMMY!" Owen yells from the kitchen.
"COMING!" Natalie yells back to him, "No calling Jay!" she tells Will before walking off.

Fifteen minutes later there's a knock, Will answers the door, "Where is she?" Halstead asks his brother.
"She's upstairs in the guest bedroom," Will tells him.
Halstead takes off running toward the stairs then runs up them.
Halstead comes to the guest bedrooms door and opens it to see Shaylynn laying on the bed asleep.
Letting out a sigh of relief to see she's okay he walks into the room closing the door behind him.
He walks over to the bed takes off his gun and lays it down on a table then takes off his shoes.
Making his way up onto the bed, he snuggles up behind Shaylynn putting his arm around her placing his hand on her stomach.
Shaylynn's eye pop open and she's ready to jump up off the bed but Halstead holds onto her.
"Shaylynn, no! No more running!" he tells her.
"I have to go!" she tells him trying to get away.
"No! You need to stay here and talk to me! Shaylynn, I'm apart of this also! I'm hurting to over this news!" he tells her.
Hearing this Shaylynn stops fighting against him.
He backs up and rolls her over so he can see her face, "You have to talk to me! We can get through this together!" he tells her, "We have to stay strong for each other!"
Shaylynn bursts into tears, Halstead pulls her toward him.
After a minute she stops crying, "I can't believe Natalie called you!"
"Natalie didn't call me, Will did," Halstead tells her, "Don't be mad at him! He knew I was worried sick not knowing where you were after you left with Butch. The way Butch likes to disappear, I thought you did as well."
"What are we going to do now?" Shaylynn questions him.
"We'll move on and keep this little one safe and healthy but will remember the little one we lost at the same time," he tells her running his thumb along her cheek, "You just have to talk to me and let me in! I'm here for you! A lot of people are here for you! You don't have to go through anything alone!"
Shaylynn sits up and throws her legs over the side of the bed, "I guess we should be going" she tells him.
Halstead sits up, "We probably should," he says as he puts his shoes on.
He stands up, walks over to the table and picks up his gun as Shaylynn puts on her shoes.

They head downstairs then walk into the living room where Will is.
Shaylynn walks past him giving him a pissed off look as she walks to the kitchen where Natalie is making supper.
Halstead stands by his brother, "She's pissed at me!" Will tells him.
"She's not happy but she'll get over it!" Halstead tells him, "She knows what you did was the right thing to do!"
"I hope so! I don't want her mad at me for very long!" Will tells him as Shaylynn and Natalie walk out of the kitchen and toward the front door.
"Thanks again, Natalie!" Shaylynn tells her as Halstead opens the door.
"Shaylynn, anytime you need anything I'm here!" Natalie tells her.
Shaylynn smiles at Natalie when she looks at Will the smile goes away.
She turns and walks out the door.
"Don't think anything about it!" Halstead tells his brother as he walks out the door.
Once Halstead is walking down the steps, Natalie closes the door then looks at Will.
"Shaylynn hates me! She's going to hurt me!" Will tells Natalie with a terrified look on his face.
Natalie starts laughing, "Yes, she's not happy with you but she's not going to hurt you!" she tells him.

Shaylynn looks around and sees Halstead isn't heading home, "Where are you going?"
"Someone is going to want to know that you're alright," Halstead tells her as he pulls into the Firehouse driveway.
That's when it comes back to Shaylynn what she did to Severide.
She looks and sees Severide walking out the door.
Opening up the truck door she gets out and starts walking up to him.
When she reaches Severide she throws her arms around his neck and starts crying, "Kelly, I'm so sorry I pulled my gun on you!" she tells him.
Severide puts his arms around her, "It's alright! I knew you wouldn't hurt me!" he tells her.
Looking at the sight before him, Halstead's heart sinks.
