Chapter 20 "It's Complicated"

After a couple of days, Shaylynn's released from the hospital.
Halstead takes furlough to be home with her.
Not wanting to be stuck around the house, they decide to take the kids to the park.
Standing over by the slide, watching over the kids, they talk about the news Dr. Rhodes told Halstead.
"I can't believe this happened!" Shaylynn says, "We're going to have three sets of twins! Eight kids total!"
"It's not like we were preventing anything from happening!" Halstead reminds her.
Shaylynn looks at him, "I know that! But twins?!" she says looking away over at the kids.
"These last couple of days you act like you're not happy about the news," Halstead tells her.
"It's going to take me time to process the news. I remember all too well what I went through with Titus and Trinity" Shaylynn tells him.
"Will it make you feel any better if I told you I got us tickets to see Sia tonight at the United Center?" Halstead asks her.
Shaylynn turns around with a huge smile on her face to see Halstead standing there holding the tickets.
"I forgot all about her having to reschedule a few dates!" she says then kisses him.
Shaylynn then takes the tickets from him and looks at them, "Front row!" she says with an even bigger smile on her face.

It's later in the evening.
The kids have had supper and now they're all playing in their rooms.
Shaylynn is in the bathroom finishing up getting dressed for the concert.
She's about ready to open the door but the feeling of sickness rushes over her.
Quickly making her way over to the toilet she proceeds to get sick.
Halstead's getting ready to walk out of the bedroom when he hears her.
Quickly opening up the bathroom door, he runs over to her and pulls her hair back.
Shaylynn goes to stand up, Halstead letting go of her hair. She walks over to the sink with Halstead following her.
Shaylynn grabs a cup, gets some water and washes out her mouth spitting the water out into the sink.
"Are you sure you're up for this?" Halstead asks her looking at her concerned.
Shaylynn looks at him, "I'm not missing this! Sia doesn't go out on tour a lot!" she tells him.
"Okay. I'm going to go and say goodbye and goodnight to the kids. By the time we get home they'll be in bed" he tells her.
"Alright! I'm going to brush my teeth and I'll be right there!" she tells him.
Halstead walks out of the bathroom.
After a couple of minutes, Shaylynn makes her way around to each kids bedroom. When she's done telling all of them goodnight, she heads downstairs to find Halstead standing at the bottom waiting on her.
"Ready?" he asks her.
"Yes!" Shaylynn says smiling.
Halstead grabs her hand and leads her out into the garage.
He opens the door to his truck and helps her in. After she's in he shuts the door and heads to the driver's side, gets in and backs out of the garage.

After finding a parking place at the United Center, Halstead and Shaylynn head for the entrance.
Once inside, an usher escorts them to their seats.
As Shaylynn sits down the gentleman sitting beside her looks over.
"Shaylynn?" he questions.
She looks at him, "Joe? What are you doing here?"
"Leon and I received tickets!" he says all excited looking past her, "Hey, Jay!" Cruz says to be nice.
The Squad guys are still sore about Severide and Shaylynn getting a divorce then Halstead proposing to her on the same day the divorce was final. With Severide being their friend and Lieutenant and to keep the peace they act cordial around Halstead.
"Who did do receive the tickets from?" Shaylynn asks.
"From Erica. She's singing background for Sia" Cruz tells her.
"Is she?" Shaylynn questions smiling.
The house lights go out then the stage lights come on.
"Who's Erica?" Halstead asks Shaylynn.
"She's Joe and Leon's, sister.  She's also a friend" Shaylynn tells him, "I met her when I was doing security work for Katy Perry. Erica was singing background for her. It wasn't until I got with Kelly I found out that Joe was Erica's brother."
The music starts up.
After the concerts over, a man comes out to the front row and hands Cruz, Leon, Halstead, and Shaylynn backstage passes.
"Sia saw you and wanted you four to have these passes," the guy tells them.
"How did she see us?" Halstead questions.
Shaylynn turns and hits him on the arm, Cruz snickers.
"Follow me!" the guy tells them.
He starts walking away.
Cruz and Leon step to the side so Shaylynn can walk by them.
Halstead and Cruz look at each as they follow behind Shaylynn.
The guy walks up to a door, opens it and holds it open so they can walk through.
He then leads them down a hallway, stops at another door, opens it and walks in.
With the guys behind her, Shaylynn walks into a huge room where the band is along with Sia and Erica.
Cruz and Leon make a beeline for Erica as Shaylynn and Halstead walk over to Sia.
Halstead's eyes get huge because he can see her face.
"Shaylynn!" she says with her arms wide open.
Shaylynn walks up to her and gives her a hug.
"It's been way too long!" Sia tells her.
"Thanks for the passes," Shaylynn tells her, "I'd like to introduce you to my husband Jay."
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Jay!" Sia says, "What do you do for a living?"
"I'm a Detective for the Chicago Police Department," he tells her.
Sia looks at Shaylynn, "Impressive!" she says with a smile.
A guy walks up beside Shaylynn, "Sia, I need you for a few minutes" he tells her.
"Will you two excuse me," Sia says.
"Sure," Shaylynn tells her.
As Sia walks away Cruz, Leon along with Erica walk over.
"It's been a long time!" Erica says to Shaylynn.
"It sure has!" Shaylynn says giving Erica a hug.
"Have you been staying out of trouble?" Erica asks her.
Halstead snickers, "I take that as a no?" Erica asks.
Shaylynn hits Halstead on the arm, "I've been staying me" she tells Erica with a smile on her face.
"Then no! You most definitely haven't been staying out of trouble!" Erica says then starts laughing.
"What have you been doing?" Shaylynn asks her.
"I've been out on tour with several people. And in between tours I did some Broadway" Erica tells her.
"That's fantastic!" Shaylynn tells her.
"What have you been up to?" Erica asks Shaylynn.
"It's complicated!" Shaylynn tells her.
Erica knows that means it's not a good time to talk about the subject.
"I totally forgot! Erica, this is my husband Jay" Shaynn tells her.
Cruz cringes at the sound of Shaylynn introducing Halstead as her husband.
"It's nice to me you, Jay!" Erica says.
Cruz looks at Erica, "Leon and I are going to have to go. I have to be at the Firehouse early and Leon has an early shift" he tells her.
"Okay," Erica says hugging Cruz and Leon before they walk out of the room.
"We should be leaving also," Halstead tells Shaylynn.
"You go ahead! I'm going to stick around and catch up with Erica and Sia if that's alright with them" Shaylynn says as Sia walks up to them.
"That's fine with me!" Sia says, "I'll make sure she gets home!" Sia tells Halstead.
Halstead smiles at Sia then looks at Shaylynn, "Don't stay out too long. You need your rest!" he says looking down at her stomach.
"I'll be fine!" Shaylynn tells him.
Halstead kisses her, turns around and walks out of the room.

Halstead is woken by his phone.
Picking it up off the nightstand he squints to look at the time, 4:35 a.m., he turns on the light then answers the call.
"Hello"
"Jay, we have a case!" Upton tells him.
"Where?" Halstead asks her.
"The United Center," Upton tells him, "Kevin has been trying to get ahold of Shaylynn but she isn't answering her phone."
Halstead rolls over to see Shaylynn isn't in bed.
He throws the covers off of him and hurries downstairs looking for her.
"Is she alright?" Upton asks Halstead.
"I don't know! She's not here!" Halstead tells her.
"What do you mean she's not there?" Upton questions, "Weren't you two going out on a date?" Upton asks him.
"Yes," Halstead tells her, "But she stayed behind while I left!"
"Where did you leave her?" Upton asks.
"The United Center!" Halstead says in a panicked tone.
