Chapter 22 "Wrong Answer"

Walking inside everyone heads upstairs so they can listen to what Sia, Erica, and Shaylynn have to say about what happened in the loading dock area.
Once upstairs Shaylynn pulls Halstead to the side, "I'd like for Sia's manager not to listen to anything she, Erica, and I have to say."
Halstead nods at her, "You really have a bad feeling about him?" he questions her.
"Yes! I know he was out in the loading dock area when we were being shot at. There is no reason why those guys would have let him live unless he's working with them!" she tells him.
"I'll pull Hank to the side and tell him what you just told me!" Halstead tells her.
He gives her a quick kiss then walks over to Hank.
Shaylynn is about ready to follow behind him when she gets a sharp pain in her abdomen.
She puts one hand on her stomach and the other hand on a desk to try and steady herself but ends up falling to her knees.
"SHAYLYNN!" Burgess yells out.
Halstead turns around to see Shaylynn on her knees. He quickly makes his way over to her as Atwater is scooping her up.
"Let's get her out to my truck!" Halstead tells Atwater.
Running over to the stairs, Halstead and Atwater quickly make their way down.
"Sia and Erica need to be in FBI custody!" Emily tells Hank.
"You guys go! We can handle this!" Antonio says.
"Are you sure?" Sam questions.
Antonio just looks at her, "Alright, two more FBI agents are on their way!" Sam tells him.
Hank, Emily, and Sam hurry over to the stairs disappearing down them.

Running into the ED, Atwater is behind Halstead.
"Maggie!" Halstead yells.
"What's wrong?" she asks.
"It's Shaylynn! She's having pains in her abdomen!" Halstead tells her.
"Take her into Trauma 4," she tells him.
Atwater starts heading in that direction.
"Dr. Halstead, you're up! Trauma 4!" Maggie tells him.
He looks and sees it's Shaylynn, "I don't think that would be a good idea with her being my sister-in-law!"
Maggie gives him a glare, "You're the only doctor I have available! Now get in there!"
"Yes, Ma'am!" Dr. Halstead tells her.
He walks over to Trauma 4 and walks in, "Will?" Halstead says confused.
"I'm the only doctor available!" he tells his brother.
Atwater steps out and walks to the waiting area.
"Shaylynn, where's the pain?" Dr. Halstead asks her.
"My left side," she tells him.
"Are you experiencing any bleeding?" Dr. Halstead asks her.
"I don't think so," Shaylynn tells him.
Even though his brother is a doctor, Halstead can see how uncomfortable he is, so he looks to see if Shaylynn's bleeding.
"No, she's not bleeding," Halstead tells his brother.
Dr. Halstead turns and pulls the ultrasound machine over by Shaylynn.
Halstead pulls up her shirt. Dr. Halstead puts the gel on her stomach then the transducer.
He moves it around and then side to side.
Halstead is looking at his brother's face and can tell that he's very concerned.
"Will," Halstead says.
Dr. Halstead looks at him with a very concerning look, "What is it?" Halstead asks.
"I can only find one heartbeat," Dr. Halstead says.
Shaylynn looks at Halstead with devastation in her eyes.
"Will, are you sure?" Halstead asks him.
Dr. Halstead looks out and sees Dr. Choi walking by, "Ethan, can I get a second opinion real quick?"
Dr. Choi walks in, as he does Dr. Halstead holds out the transducer to him.
Taking the transducer, Dr. Choi puts it on Shaylynn. He does the same thing Dr. Halstead did.
Dr. Choi looks at Halstead then to Shaylynn, "I only see one heartbeat" he says.
Shaylynn bursts into tears, Halstead pulls her to him.
"What happens now?" Halstead asks as he holds Shaylynn.
"Jay, I don't think this is the time to talk about that," Dr. Halstead tells him.
"What now!" Halstead says again, "What about the other baby?!"
"The other baby looks healthy with a strong heartbeat," Dr. Choi tells him.
"What's going to happen to the other baby?" Shaylynn asks sitting back, wiping her eyes.
"Shaylynn.." Dr. Halstead says.
Dr. Choi looks at him, "I'll tell her. The other baby will be absorbed. It's called vanishing twin syndrome."
"I can't believe this is happening!" Shaylynn says looking at Halstead, "I did this!"
"Look at me!" Halstead says to her putting his hands on each side of her face, "You didn't do anything! This is not your fault! Things like this happen all the time!" he says looking at Dr. Halstead and Dr. Choi.
"Jay's right! Things like this happen all the time!" Dr. Choi tells her.
"When can I leave?" she asks the doctors.
"After an hour," Dr. Halstead tells her.
"Okay," Shaylynn says laying her head back and shutting her eyes.
Dr. Choi looks at Halstead and nods toward the door.
All three men walk out, "You're going to have to keep a close eye on her!" Dr. Choi tells Halstead.
"I will! I know this is going to set her off" Halstead says.
Halstead looks out and sees Hank, Emily, and Sam out in the waiting area, "I better go and tell them what happened."
Halstead walks out to the waiting area as Dr. Halstead and Dr. Choi go about their duties.
