Chapter 10 "Was He There"

After being checked out at the hospital, Shaylynn is ready to go home.
Hank gives Halstead the day off so he can spend it with her.
After talking it over, both Halstead and Shaylynn feel weird about going to Severide's.
After leaving the hospital they stop at the Firehouse and give back his key.
But before heading home they stop and get Shaylynn's car.

Walking into the house they find that Mary has taken the kids out.
Shaylynn heads upstairs and changes into a Maxi dress.
She comes back downstairs and walks to the kitchen where Halstead is.
Before Shaylynn can get into the refrigerator to get a bottle of water, Halstead grabs her arm, turns her around and starts kissing her passionately.
Shaylynn pushes him back, "What brought this on?" she asks him
"You almost died!" Halstead tells her, "Let's have another baby!" he says.
Shaylynn's eyes get huge, "Uh, let's not!" she tells him, "We have six kids already! Plus we don't have any more bedrooms!"
"We'll buy a bigger house!" Halstead tells her.
"Jay, I love you but we have enough kids!" Shaylynn tells him.
He gets a defeated look on his face. Grabbing her hips he pulls her close to him and puts his head on her shoulder.
"Can we at least practice?" Halstead asks her.
Shaylynn let's out a little laugh, "I can't quite yet" she reminds him.
Halstead picks up his head and looks at her, "Sorry, I forgot!" he tells her.
He starts kissing her while gathering up her skirt. When it's up far enough, he puts his hands up underneath, grabs her panties and pushes them down. They drop to Shaylynn's ankles. Halstead picks her up, as he does her panties fall off her feet and onto the floor.
He sits her on the island, bends down and disappears under her skirt.
Shaylynn lays back onto the island and exhales, all her worries and concerns are forgotten.

The next day Shaylynn shows up for work.
Brian Luce looks out of his office and sees her, "Shaylynn!" he yells out his door.
"WOW! You just got here and you're already in trouble!" Mike one of the guys on SWAT tells her.
Shaylynn looks at Mike and sticks her tongue out at him.
She walks over to Brian's office and pokes her head in, "You called!" she says.
"Come in and shut the door!" Brian tells her.
Shaylynn walks in and shuts the door behind her, "What did I do now?" she asks him.
"You didn't do anything!" Brian tells her, "I want to know why you're here?"
Shaylynn looks at Brian confused, "Uh, I work here! Or at least I think I do!" she tells him.
Brian smiles at her, "Yes, you work here! But why are you here so early after what happened?" he asks her.
Shaylynn shakes her head, "Something is always going to happen! I can't keep taking a day off because something does happen! I didn't take days off over in the Middle East and I'm not going to do it here!" she tells him.
"Alright!" Brian tells her, "There's something else before you leave. Under the circumstances, I wouldn't be asking you this but the higher-ups in the Ivory Tower need an answer immediately. With the untimely death of Rich, the Bomb Squad is in need of a Commander. I'm to ask you if you would want to accept the position?"
Shaylynn looks at Brian dumbfounded, "Are you serious?" she asks him, "Why me? Why not one of the other guys?"
"Your experience with all types of bombs over in the Middle East is what put you on Rich's radar in the first place. So I can only imagine the ones in the Ivory Tower trust his judgment" Brian tells her.
"What about SWAT?" Shaylynn asks.
"You would still be working here. The Bomb Squads would be moved here into a different part of the building. You would be pulling double duty" he tells her trying to read the expression on her face, "Well?" he asks her.
"Yes!" Shaylynn tells him.
Brian looks at her surprised, "Really? You're not going to talk it over with Jay?" he asks her.
"You said the Ivory Tower wants an answer immediately! Well, I'm giving my answer immediately!" she tells Brian.
"Alright, I'll call them and let them know," Brian says.
Shaylynn opens the door and walks out.

Halstead walks up to Intelligence and sees Mouse sitting at his desk, "Mouse, man I'm sorry about things! Everything has been so crazy!"
"No problem!" Mouse tells him handing him a piece of paper.
"What's this?" Halstead asks.
"That's where Arthur is right now!" Mouse tells him.
Halstead looks at him, "You amaze me!"
Mouse looks back at Halstead and smiles, "I know! You better go!"
Halstead grabs his coat and rushes down the stairs.
