Chapter 18 "Everyone Out"

Arriving at the Silos, Shaylynn sees Hank standing over by one of them.
As soon as Halstead stops the truck, Shaylynn jumps out and runs over.
"Dad?!" she says to him.
Hank turns around.
She sees he's been crying and puts her arms around him.
"Dad, I'm here!" she tells him as he puts his arms around her.
Hank looks and sees Halstead getting out of his truck and stands in front of it.
"Why is he here?" Hank asks her.
"He's here as a concerned Son-In-Law! Not as one of your detectives!" she tells him, "Come on, let's get you home!"
They walk over to Hanks car. She puts him in the passenger seat.
After closing the door, she walks over to Halstead, "I'm going to take him home" she tells him.
"I'll follow you!" he tells her.
"Are you sure after everything that's going on between you two?" Shaylynn asks.
"Of course I'm sure! Hank might be my boss, but that's at the District. Right now he's my Father-In-Law," Halstead tells her.
Shaylynn smiles at him, "Thank you, Jay!"
He pulls her toward him, "You don't have to thank me! We're in this together! For better or for worse!" he then kisses her, "We better get him home."
Shaylynn walks over to Hank's car and gets in.
She drives off with Halstead following her.

Arriving at Hank's house, Shaylynn walks in with him while Halstead follows.
Inside Shaylynn sits down on the couch with Hank, "Dad, talk to me!"
Hank doesn't say anything.
"Dad, you can tell me anything! You know that right?!" she asks him.
"Intelligence isn't going to be the same without Al!" Hank tells her as he looks over at Halstead who's standing in the doorway.
"Of course it's not but Al wouldn't want you like this! He would want you to be remembering the good times! Both of you!" Shaylynn says looking at both of them.
"You sit here and relax, I'll get supper started," she tells Hank.
Standing up Shaylynn walks to the kitchen, Halstead follows her.
She looks in the freezer, then into the refrigerator. Closing the door she looks at Halstead pissed.
Hurrying over to the cupboards she opens them up, "He doesn't have anything to eat!" she tells Halstead.
"I'll call for a pizza," he tells her.
Once Halstead's off the phone Shaylynn walks over to him, "Jay, thank you for coming!" she tells him.
He looks at her, "I told you, you don't have to thank me!"
"Yes, I do! Here lately I haven't shown you how much I appreciate you!" she says.
Halstead walks closer to her, "Are you sure? What about earlier?" he asks with a huge smile on his face.
Shaylynn rolls her eyes, "Okay, then I haven't told you how much I appreciate you!" she tells him, "This last month has been really rough for both of us! Jay, I wouldn't have made it this far if I didn't have you!"
Halstead quickly grabs her and takes her into an embrace, "You're my world! You have saved me more then you will ever know!"

A few weeks have gone by.
Halstead and Shaylynn were able to take down the military weapons ring that was in Chicago.
Out of all people who came to collect the weapons it was Cole.
Seeing how happy Shaylynn is, he made it seem he didn't know who she was when they were around Halstead.

It's a Monday morning at District 21.
Everyone is sitting at their desks when Hank walks out of his office, "Alright everyone! Listen up! There's going to be some changes. Hailey and Jay will continue to be partners as will Kim and Antonio. As for you Adam, you'll now be partnered with me" Hank says.
Everyone looks at Atwater, "What about Kevin?" Ruzek asks Hank.
"He'll be partnering with our new member," Hank says.
Everyone gets surprised looks on their faces, "A new member?" Antonio asks, "Who's this new member?"
Hank nods toward the stairs.
Everyone turns around and sees Shaylynn standing there.
Atwater turns back to Hank with a huge smile on his face.
Halstead jumps up and quickly walks over to her, "Why didn't you tell me?!" he asks her.
"It wasn't a done deal until an hour ago," she tells him.
"What about SWAT?" Antonio questions.
"I'll still be working with SWAT as their long-range sniper but will only go in on raids when it's absolutely necessary," she says.
"What about the Bomb Squad?" Antonio asks her.
Shaylynn is starting to get really irritated at the questions coming from Antonio, "I'll still be the Commander. Those guys are highly qualified to do their jobs! They don't need me around all the time!" she tells him, "You know if I didn't know any better Antonio, I swear you don't want me here!" Shaylynn says to him.
Antonio gets a surprised look on his face then looks around at everyone else and the expressions on their faces.
"Oh no! Don't take it like that! I was just asking because I didn't know if you had given up the other ones" he tells her.
"Alright everyone let's get back to work!" Hank tells them.
Everyone goes back to what they were doing, everyone except Halstead.
"Come on! Let's get you a locker" he tells her.
They walk back to the locker room and the locker right beside his is available.
Shaylynn puts her stuff in, locks it up then they head back out.
Hank is standing there waiting on them, "Shaylynn, we only have one desk open" he tells her looking over at Alvin's desk, then down to the floor.
Shaylynn walks up to Hank and grabs his hands, he looks up at her, "I would be honored!" she tells him.
Hank gives her one of his half smiles. He turns and walks back into his office.
"Do you think you can handle all of this?" Halstead asks her, concerned about his wife.
"I'll be fine!" she tells him, "You better get back to work!"
Halstead smiles at her, turns and sits down at his desk.
Shaylynn sits down.
She runs her hand over the desk, then runs her fingers over Alvin's keyboard.
Her mind keeps telling her that she can't keep thinking of these things as his but her heart is saying differently.
Shaylynn looks up at Halstead's back knowing this is the view Alvin had every day of her husband. Along with the pictures of their kids and of them on their wedding day sitting on Halstead's desk.
Feeling tears making their way down her face, she quickly wipes them away.
Opening up the big bottom drawer to put her bag in she's shocked to see what's in it.
"I want everyone out and heading downstairs!" she says standing up, "Clear the building!"
Hank comes out of his office and looks at Shaylynn, "What's going on?" he asks her.
"There's a bomb in the drawer!" Shaylynn tells him, "EVERYONE OUT NOW!" she yells at them.
