Chapter 25 "No One's Alive"

Halstead quickly sits up in bed, drenched in a cold sweat.
It's been months since he watched Shaylynn hug Severide in the Firehouse driveway but he can't shake the feeling she's going to leave him and go back with Severide.
Trying to slow down his breathing, he reaches over and touches Shaylynn's side but she's not there.
He quickly gets up out of bed and runs downstairs to find her sitting on the couch watching TV.
"Are you okay?" he asks her.
"I'm fine. Someone thought it would be a good time to start doing kickboxing on my bladder," she tells him rubbing her stomach.
Halstead smiles, "Come here!" Shaylynn tells him.
He walks over to her and sits down beside her on the couch.
"Give me your hand," she tells him.
Halstead holds out his hand, Shaylynn grabs it and puts it on the side of her stomach that's being kicked.
A huge smile shows on his face as a concerned look appears on hers, "Jay, are you alright? You're covered in sweat!"
"Bad dream," he tells her.
"You're worrying me! You've been having a lot of them!" Shaylynn tells him.
"Are you still seeing Dr. Charles?" Halstead asks her.
"Yes, once a week. Why?" she asks.
"Has he ever asked or mentioned anything about Kelly?" he asks her.
Shaylynn gets a confused look on her face, "The only time Kelly's name came up was when I first started going. Dr. Charles asked me if I was having problems with him. After that, Kelly's name has never come up again. Jay, what's this about?"
"Has my name ever come up?" Halstead asks.
"Of course! You're my husband! Dr. Charles has voiced his concerned about you and wishes you would come with me. But he realizes you're seeing someone else and that it would be odd," Shaylynn tells him.
"The next time you go I'll go with you," he tells her.
Shaylynn smiles, "Really?"
Halstead shakes his head 'yes'.
Shaylynn moves over closer to him and puts her head on his shoulder.
Halstead searches his head for answers.
Here he sits with his pregnant wife with kids upstairs and he can't stop worrying about something that most likely won't happen but he can't stop thinking about it. He has so much to lose.

The next morning, Halstead feels something poking him in the face and on top of the head.
"I think they're dead," he hears Titus say.
"Nah! They're still breathing," Dominic says holding a little mirror under Shaylynn's nose.
"Would you leave them alone!" Shannara tells her younger brothers.
Shaylynn raises her head off Halstead's lap, "What time is it?" she asks Shannara.
"After six," she tells Shaylynn.
"Crap!" Shaylynn says trying to sit up.
Dominic and Titus grab her hands and help her sit up, "Thank you!" she tells them, "Jay! If we don't start getting ready, we're going to be late for work," she tells him nudging him in the side.
"I'll be up in a minute," he tells her.
Shaylynn stands up, "Is Mary here?" she asks any of the kids.
"Yes, she's in the kitchen with Destiny and Trinity," Sia tells her.
"Okay," Shaylynn says heading toward the stairs.
The rest of the kids head to the kitchen to get breakfast.
After a few minutes, Halstead decides it's a good time to get up.
He walks over to the stairs and
walks up.

Walking into the master bedroom he can hear water running. He walks into the bathroom to see Shaylynn's taking a shower.
Taking off his pajama pants, he opens the shower door and gets in starling her once she comes out from under the water.
"Jay, what are you doing?" she asks him.
"I need to get a shower also," he tells her smiling as he puts his hands on her hips.
He pulls her closer to him, "Jay, really? With me like this?" she asks him putting her hands on her stomach.
"Oh yeah!" he says smiling bigger.
He starts kissing her. After a minute he turns her around and starts kissing her neck.
Halstead makes her bend forward, Shaylynn putting her hands on the same wall as the showerhead.
The water runs down her back and down onto Halstead as he enters her. He bends over, reaches around and cups her breasts then starts kissing her back.
It doesn't take long for Shaylynn to moan out in pleasure with Halstead doing the same not too far behind her.
Both of them finish up their showers.
After getting out and getting dressed Halstead sees what time it is, "You better hurry or your Father-In-Law is going to give a lecture about being late to work," Shaylynn tells him.
Halstead gives her a look, "So you're completely with the Bomb Squads now?" he asks her.
"As of right now, yes. The body cams for the guys came in so I'm able to see what they're seeing. Brian won't let me do anything for SWAT," she tells him shaking her head, "Brian acts like a second Father! But what should I expect with him and Hank being good friends."
Halstead walks up to her, "We all want what's best for you!" he tells her.
"I know but when you three gang up on me it's not fair!" she tells him.
Halstead laughs, "It takes all three of us to gang up on you because of you being so strong willed!"
Shaylynn sticks her tongue out at him, "You better go!"
