My eyes glazed across the thick books sitting on the Birch self. I smiled brightly, the emptiness of the library coming to my attention. My friend, Lizzy the librarian, let me in one a day when they were closed to let me study in peace. I wanted some books about nature and photography- though my professor said I was really talented with a camera. Suddenly, a loud cheer interrupted me, making me drop my book. Anger filled my body as I marched over to the commotion. There were two men smiling widely. One was holding a phone- clearly recording- and the other had green hair, prancing around. The green haired boy noticed me, "I didn't know you were here..." "Chase!" Lizzy screamed, "I told you to be quiet. My friend is studying." Chase blushed a deep red, "I didn't know that it was some snobby girl!" I scoffed, "It's a library! It's supposed to be quiet. Not a jungle gym." Lizzy glared at Chase and the other boy, "Just clean up." Chase rolled his blue eyes at her, "Whatever." They began to pick up books from the floor. I bit my lip and began picking them up to. Chase looked surprised, " What are you doing?" "Helping. The sooner this is cleaned up, the sooner I can study." I scoffed. He rolled his eyes and shoved the last book into the shelf. Chase adjusted his shirt then pointed to the man behind him that once held the camera, "That's Robin. And I'm Chase Brody." I shrugged, "Why would I care for your names?" "Why are you being so rude? You really care about school that much?" He sneered. "Actually, yes! I do!" I shot, "I'm a photographer ! And what are you doing, Mr. Brody? Throwing tea bags into cups?" Chase frowned at me, collecting his things and leaving.
Once again, I woke up and made my way to the library. It wasn't packed, but no where close to empty either. I pulled out my tablet and began editing my photos. Then, a cup was placed next to me. Looking up, there was Chase, standing awkwardly. "I wanted to apologize for yesterday. I was having a bad day and Lizzy was kind enough to let me record here." He whispered. I smiled gently at him and took the cup into my hand, "It's okay, Chase. Everyone has days like that." I gestured to the empty seat besides me. He smiled and sat down, "I never did get your name." I giggled quietly, "It's (Y/N) (L/N)." He nodded slowly and looked at my photo, "Woah. That's really good!" I blushed, tucking strands of hair behind my ears. "I know some places to get some good photos. It will surely let you win that contest at school." He added. "How do you know that I am in school?" I asked. He pointed to my school lanyard that was around my neck. Mental facepalm. Chase stood up and held out a hand for me, "Let's get out of here." I looked at my tablet, then into his bright baby blues. I nodded.
Chase's car was small, only sat five people. The backseat had many papers, files, some clothing carelessly thrown onto it. There were some beer bottles to and a small book bag. "Just recently got to hang with the boys. Sorry about the mess." Chase embarrassingly stated. "How old are you anyways?" I changed topic, "Old enough to drink?" "Chill. I'm 21. How old are you?" He chuckled. "19." Silence. I noticed a pale band running around his left ring finger. Maybe he wore a ring once. "I bet your single, huh?" I teased carefully. Chase playfully glared, "You saying I'm ugly?" I nodded, then pinched my nose, "Smelly to." He rolled his eyes, "Yeah whatever."
The sun was setting behind us, the breeze cool as it ran through our hair. "Relaxing, huh?" Chase asked in a hushed tone. "Mhm." I closed my eyes and nodded slowly. The rocks beneath me were cold to the touch, chilling my warm skin. I listened as Chase left where we once were. The rocks clattering at his touch. Opening my eyes, he was at the front of the cliff, the sun trickling through his hair and shadowing his face. Perfect shot. I quickly tore my camera from my bag and demanded Chase not to move. Snap. "Okay, your good." I smiled, grabbing the Polaroid from the camera and waving it. Chase stared, "You use Polaroids?" I nodded simply. In the picture, the joyous Sun gave it a happy feeling, yet the way Chase was staring, standing...it was sad. Bittersweet. The stars slowly began to come out and twinkle in the sky. "Come on, Hipster. Best we get back." He mentioned.
Chase dropped me off at my dormitories, waving away as he left. I smiled happily as I entered the building, and into my shared bedroom. "Who was that?" Chloe, my roommate, asked. "Just a friend."
