"Come on Avery!" Olivia giggled, running along the sidewalk as the German Shepard followed her, barking excitedly. "Be careful, honey!" Chase called to her. She nodded gently but still continued to make a beeline to the park with her companion. Chase and I chuckled, squeezing our hands tighter together. He kissed my forehead and pushed the hair from my face, "Are you okay?" I nodded gently and cleared my throat, "Yeah...yeah. Just a little nervous about today..." He playfully rolled his eyes and gently grabbed my face, squeezing my cheeks together, "Love, I've told you. It's going to be okay!" I giggled and pulled myself from his grip and tightly held his hand, "I know, I know. It's just...I don't want a replay of my last pregnancy...with the miscarriage and all..." Chase gently rested his hand on my belly, rubbing it with his thumb, "I'm going to protect you, and this baby. I promise." He chuckled and flexed his muscles, "I'm your knight in shining amour!" "Mommy!" Olivia shrieked out, Avery whimpered in fear. Chase and I bolted for our daughter. Olivia sat on the ground, holding her knee close to her chest, tears streaming down her face. Chase removed the hair sticking from her face and rubs her cheeks with the pad of his thumb, "Shhhh, babygirl. It's okay." She huffed and hiccuped as she looked at her father, then to me, then to Avery. Avery cocked his head to the side as he whimpered at her. She smiled softly, "It's okay, I'm okay." Avery's tongue flopped out as he smiled at her. I examined her knee, she scraped the poor thing. She was wasn't bleeding too bad, but I could tell it was causing her pain. "I'll go grab some water-" "No, how about you stay here with her. You don't need to be running around. Just stay here, I'll go grab some water." Chase sweetly demanded, kissing our cheeks and leaving us. I pushed the hair behind Olivia's pink ears, smiling gently at her, "Don't cry, sweetie." Olivia balled up her fist and wiped her tears from her reddened cheeks, "Are w-we going to see the b-baby today?" I smiled, "Yes, of course. And maybe we can hear the baby's heartbeat." She bounced happily on her butt and quietly squealed. I ruffled her hair and smiled gently at her, "Are you excited?" She nodded quickly. Chase was once again at our side, damping her wound. He smiled gently and grabbed a band-aid from his pocket and wrapped it on her knee, "There you go. All better." I giggled and cocked my head to the side, "Where did you get that from?" He opened is jacket pocket, showing me multiple band-aids, coming in different colors and sizes. I rose to my feet and dusted the dirt from my knees. Suddenly, a skateboard came zooming by, ripping me off my feet as I fell to the ground with a thud. I gasped for air, holding my chest as I wheezed for my life. I heard a panicked 'sorry' as a teenager came by to collect the skateboard, but was once again on her way. When opening my eyes, black dots covered my vision as a headache pushed itself into my skull. Avery's wet tongue licked my face as he gave me a sad whimper. Chase fell to my side and lifted me up slightly, "Oh my god! Are you okay?" I nodded gently, then gagging and closing my eyes shut tightly. "I think we need to get you to the hospital-" "No, no! I'm fine." I muttered, "I'm okay." I gently pushed away Chase and held my head, letting out slow breaths. He gently rubbed my back as Olivia anxiously bit her nails from behind him. "Seriously. I'm okay." I stood myself up, but to only tumble onto Chase's chest, a wave of dizziness rushing over me. "Mom!" Livy worriedly called, holding onto my hand. "That's it." Chase growled, "You're going to the hospital. We can drop off Avery, then we're going."
Dr. Collins smiled at us as he opened the door, clipboard in hand. I sat on the examination table, Chase to my left as he gripped onto my hand, Olivia in his lap. "She's going to be alright." Those were his first words. Everyone sighed in relief. "She's just going to have a headache for a bit due to the impact, but other than that, she's okay. But do come in if her pupils being to dilate, or if she's throwing up, or if she beings to go in and out of conscious." He softly explained, he then pointed to Chase, "I do suggest going to the Prenatal Clinic to make sure the baby is alright. It might be shaken up from the movement, but I think they'll be fine. Also, make sure you watch her, we don't need her getting severely hurt in anyway." We thanked the Doctor and exited his office and made our way to the Prenatal Clinic. Chase checked us in as Olivia and I sat down in the waiting room. My entire body was shaking. Olivia quickly grabbed my hand and gave it a tight squeeze, "It's going to be okay, mom." I gave her a sweet, worried smile and gently kissed her forehead, making her hum softly. Chase sighed and sat on my left, grabbing onto my other hand and rubbing it, "Excited?" I nodded silently and rested against his shoulder. Olivia laid her head into my lap, "Am I allowed to go with you?" "Of course you are, sweetie. This is going to be your brother or sister." I smiled, running my hand through her hair. "Will we find out if it's a girl or a boy today?" She asked in a shushed tone. Chase spoke up, rubbing her cheek, "Not today, babygirl. But we will soon. The baby is just really small right now."
"How small?" She pondered.
"Maybe...maybe the size of the tip of your thumb, at the most."
"Woah...was I that small?"
"Yes, babygirl. But eventually, you were the size of that baby over there." Chase pointed to a newborn, cradled up in his baby carrier. I smiled gently at the baby boy. His skin was a little pink and he looked like he could just fit into my hand. He was very small, maybe a premature baby. But the parents looked happy. They looked down on him with huge smiles, every now and then running a gentle hand over his soft head. "(Y/N) (L/N)?" A nurse called. I slightly jumped and rubbed Olivia, "Are you ready?" She nodded excitedly and followed us into the office. There were pictures of the stages of pregnancy, along with how to care for a newborn. It was kinda stressing me out a little. Chase affectionately rubbed my knee, "It's going to be okay, Love." The door opened, and a young, brown hair, and brown eyed doctor came into the room, smiling at us, "Good evening, Miss (L/N). How are we this morning?" "A little nervous." I said simply. He chuckled gently and pulled up a chair, "New parent, I'm guessing." I nodded slowly. "Well. I'm Doctor Thomas, I'll be checking in with you throughout your pregnancy. First, we need to check your weight, height, and blood pressure. Then we'll send you back out to the waiting room, the call you back for your ultra sound." He smiled and grabbed a clipboard and pen, asking multiple health questions. I gained a little weight from the pregnancy, which is a good thing and my blood pressure was a little high, but he said it was alright. Chase, Olivia, and I made our way back into the waiting room as we waited impatiently. Chase pulled some coloring books and crayons from my purse and handed them to Olivia, "Go on and have some fun while we wait, bláth beag." She giggled and rushed off into a corner of the room. "You're prepared for this type of stuff, aren't you?" I giggled. He shrugged and rested back into his seat, "If you keep them entertained, they don't get antsy." I played with my engagement ring as I watched the parents cuddle their children, smiling down at them as they giggled, or smiled. I looked at Chase, who was scrolling through his phone. We're having a baby. I smiled even more as I rested my hands on my belly, rubbing it gently with my thumbs. I didn't have a baby bump yet, but I was ready for it. I'm ready to rock the pregnancy belly! "Miss (L/N), they're ready for you." Olivia's head perked up as she snatched her book and crayons, stuffing them back into my purse then grabbing onto Chase's hand. I took a deep breath and looked at my family, smiling brightly. The nurse opened the door for us as I sat onto the table. She smiled at me, "Have you ever had a Sonogram before?" "No, actually. But I've read up on it." I giggled bashfully. "Basically, we're going to put some of this gel onto you abdomen, and we're going to use this, "She held up a white stick, "To see the baby." I nodded, "Seems easy enough." Chase chuckled and pulled up a chair at my side, holding onto my hand. "Alright." The nurse typed onto the computer, "Can you lay down for me?" My dog began to shake as I leaned back, my breath trembling. Chase gently kissed my temple, "Breath, Love, it's okay." Olivia smiled at me as she swung her legs in her seat excitedly. The nurse lifted up my shirt with my consent, "This gel is cold, so brace yourself." I rolled my eyes playfully, but shivered once the gel was placed onto my bare belly. Chase laughed, "She warned you." "I didn't think it be that c-cold!" I shivered. The nurse smiled, "I'll be back with Dr. Thomas." We all groaned as we watched her leave the room. This is such a painful process! Olivia grabbed some gloves from the cabinet and began blowing them up, only to smack Chase in the face with it. He looked up from his phone and chuckled, "Oh really now? Are you trying to challenge your dad?" She giggled and hit him again, smiling. Chase playfully rolled his eyes and snatched up his daughter, tickling her sides. She squealed in delight as she tried to push his hands away. I giggled in joy. The office door opened, making everyone stop. Doctor Thomas chuckled, "Am I interrupting something?" Chase placed down his daughter and quietly apologized. The Doctor only smiled at him, "Don't worry, I'm a 'Sunshine Dad' too." We all shared a laughed. Dr. Thomas sat in the chair the nurse once sat in, grabbing the medical device and placing it onto my abdomen, "Just breath normally for me." Closing my eyes, I took deep breaths as I squeezed onto Chase's hand, making him squeeze back. The Doctor smiled at us, "Good news, there's only one baby." Chase silently cheered to himself, making me smile. Dr. Thomas turned the computer towards us, pointing at the screen, "So. This kinda blackish, grey area is your uterus. The whitish grey is your baby's sack, it's kinda hard to see since you're very early in your pregnancy. And this," He pointed to a black spot, "Is your baby's heart." Chase and I smiled gently at the screen. Our baby is okay. I clutched Chase's hand tightly as I smiled brightly at him. "Would you like to hear the baby's heart beat?" Dr. Thomas asked suddenly. Chase and I looked at each other, nodded slowly. The doctor hit a switch, and the room was silent....
Then we heard it.
A strong thumping, beating over and over again. It was beautiful. I closed my eyes tightly, pushing away the tears, then looking at Olivia. She was beaming. Chase placed a gentle kiss onto my forehead as he squeezed my hand. I could see the tears in everyone's eyes. The doctor turned off the machine as we all wiped the tears from our eyes. "Would you like pictures?" He asked. I nodded vigorously.
