Learning to Act

I have tried to justify this
To myself in a million different ways
But the simple truth is
That I have been a bad person, always.
This life is sad.

I agree that doing horrible things
To fellow beings is very bad
But to do nothing to prevent it
Is even worse and yet, I've done nothing
This life is sad.

I agree that disrupting the peace
Of self and of others is bad
But to do nothing to preserve it
Is even worse and yet, I've done nothing
This life is sad.

I agree that destroying nature
In the name of development is bad
But to do nothing to save it
Is even worse and yet, I've done nothing
This life is sad.

I agree that watching others suffer
Is eternally damning and truly bad
But to do nothing to show our care
Is even worse and yet, I've done nothing
This life is sad.

So today I take a new pledge
Instead of trying and justifying myself
I'll pick up the baton and try making a difference
No, there won't be excuses, only stories to tell.

Life is not inherently happy
Or likewise sad
It is a mixture of situations and reactions
Always remember to take the right actions!
