Chapter 40
After Maggie left, I finally fell asleep for several hours, continuing till the next day where I woke up, had breakfast and went back to sleep again, resting like I was told. However, as midday approached, I suddenly awoke again and did not feel like sleeping. I was bored of that. I then began to wonder what to do before I looked at the end of my bed and saw the blanket over my feet, giving me the idea of attempting to walk, and so I then began to pull off the blanket before sitting at the edge of my bed. I sat there for a small moment, looking at my bare feet on the floor and beginning to wonder whether this was the right decision before finally deciding that it couldn't hurt to try. So, I then began to arise to my feet before beginning to walk around, taking my time as I did. I kept holding my stomach as I did this, making sure that I wasn't breaking my stitches. I had to be careful otherwise I would have Hershel asking me questions about why I had broke them in the first place before he finally stitched them up.
Just as I finally reached the chair that Jason was sitting in before, I heard the door open, causing me to turn and see Lori standing in the doorway with a tray of food.
"What are you doing out of bed?" Lori asked as she put the tray on the side and began walking over to me.
"Walking. Well, trying to at least," I answered as I attempted to walk back to the bed.
"Here, let me help," Lori said before helping me to the bed.
Once I reached it, Lori sat me down on the bed before I laid back down and Lori put the blanket back over me.
"Thank you," I said.
"No problem. But you should be resting Skye," Lori said.
"I can't rest. Not with my sister out there. Not with Sophia out there. I need to help find them," I said.
"I know you do Skye, but you have to rest. You will be no good to anyone if you're still hurt and then we have to rescue you and find Sophia and Caroline. Please Skye, if not for me or for you, then for your daughter," Lori said.
I nodded before Lori handed me the tray and placed it on my lap. She made a look as she did before putting her hand over her mouth and looking away, giving me the impression that she was going to throw up.
"Hey Lori, are you okay?" I asked.
"Yeah. Yeah I'm fine," Lori answered as she turned back around to face me.
Despite her saying this, I could tell she was lying.
"You sick?" I questioned.
"No. I'm not sick," Lori answered.
I took one look at my tray of food before looking back at her. I then began to think about what I just saw before finally realizing what was up with her.
"You're pregnant. Aren't you?" I asked.
Lori said nothing.
"You are, I can tell. You're pregnant. I know that look from anywhere. I remember getting morning sickness all of the time with Alicia. It sucked, which is why it's still clear in my head. I still remember the way I felt around certain food, which is why I can tell that you're pregnant," I explained.
"You're right, I am, but Rick doesn't know," Lori said.
"Is it because of Shane?" I questioned.
"Was it that obvious?" Lori questioned.
"No. No it wasn't, but I'm no idiot. I've known for some time after seeing the little things like, the way you looked at one another, or the way you acted around each other. I know both of you extremely well, that's how I knew," I explained.
"I feel terrible about it. It's just- when I thought Rick was dead, I felt dead inside. I just wanted to feel something again and now, I hate myself for it," Lori said.
"And the baby?, who's is it?" I asked.
"It's Rick's, and that's all that matters," Lori said.
"Then why haven't you told him yet?" I asked.
"Because I'm scared. Scared of the fact that this baby will have no happy memories," Lori answered.
"It will, I promise you. The baby will be okay," I said.
Lori nodded before leaving me in the room to eat my lunch. After lunch, I rested some more before beginning to walk again. This time I made it to the door. I then smiled at my accomplishment before I got back into bed and went back to sleep.
A few hours later, I suddenly awoke and I saw someone sitting beside me. It was Daryl.
"Hey," Daryl said as he kissed my hand.
I smiled at this before saying...
"Shouldn't you be resting?" I asked him.
"I should but I couldn't. I needed to see with my own eyes that you were okay," Daryl said.
"Well here I am, safe and alive. I'm okay," I said.
"I'm glad, but seeing you shot, it made me realize something. Something that I didn't know I was capable of," Daryl said.
"Yeah?, and what's that?" I questioned.
"That I love you," Daryl said.
Hearing these words, I froze. I was so shocked to hear these words, that there was nothing else I could do but freeze.
"I'm in love with you Skye," Daryl said.
"I love you too," I said, finally able to talk.
We smiled before kissing each other passionately, being careful of each other's injuries. This went on for a while before he got into my bed and began to lay with me, holding me close as he did this and slowly drifting off in each other's arms...
